I am too sick to do anything. As in, I can't sit in bed and read or knit. How utterly wretched. I think this is an emergency situation that requires ice cream and rental of stupid videos.

Let's hope I can make it across the street.

Ow.

Don't forget Yahoo's free ice cream day! Free ice cream is better than just regular ice cream!

Oh dear...that sounds worse than I last heard. If you need an emergency drop of ice cream, DVDs, or brandy let me know. I can bring it by. It's not that far.

Ah but I could also wear my SARS get-up---gloves and mask and a rope of garlic 'round my neck to protect me from all evil and germs.

My email's archive has mysteriously disappeared. IT is going to try to retrieve it tomorrow. Is YDS's current Toronto snail mail the same as yourn? (Don't worry, it's not comics or any other reading matter.)

This (http://www.livejournal.com/community/conservatism/1982760.html) should cheer you up.

I'm ill also. I suggest Schwarzenegger films. Today I watched 'Eraser'. It was hilarious.

Wait. Something is very wrong here. Your name is "Miss Negativity" and yet Ivan Brunetti is not listed among your interests. His one-page gems like Drugs Are Funny, Music Brings Us All Closer and That Darn Class Struggle are both disturbing and hilarious. His homepage even has cat photos.

I'm sure you've already seen it but i will recommend you Shaun of the Dead. It's for the child/zombie lover in all of us. :)

You're right. It's so hilarious and yet so sincere. It should be recommended viewing for rebellious teenagers to transform their angry nihilism into world-saving slackerdom.

I forgot to say that I actually watched it alone, but i wish i had seen it with a friend. It would be cool.

(yes, activist documentaries are mindless entertainment for me; I'm such a dork)

Well, then I'm glad I sent you Native Land along with 1776. Well, Native Land is actually more propaganda than documentary. As I explain on the enclosed Post-it note, its leftist American patriotism is explained by the fact that it made while the US & USSR were allies and it was intended to turn the tables on red-baiters. It didn't work: Many of the people who worked on it were later black-listed in the 1950s. It's a fascinating artifact. At 88 minutes, it seems interminably long to most people who aren't into New Deal era documentary / art films, but I figured you would be one of the few who would appreciate it. It's fun hearing Paul Robeson say, "We built FREEDOM into the timbers of our homes," and catch yourself starting to correct him before you remember, Oh yeah, he's Paul Robeson: he knows.

Of course, in 1776 you get to hear the vanguard of the American Revolution sing. I re-watched it last night and found that it is easier to supply a homoerotic subtext than I remembered ("Franklin! Where were you last night when I needed you?"). Again, I have some historical problems with it. They quasi-accurately show John & Abigail Adam’s egalitarian relationship without mentioning her famous "remember the ladies" letter. What the site neglects to emphasize is that Abigail was genuinely shocked by John’s response because he had always valued her opinion before. They regularly discussed his legal cases and political work, and yet in the musical John says, "I never asked you for advice before …" which is simply bullshit. Events are also compressed or otherwise tweaked for story-telling conveniences but it is also surprisingly accurate in other areas. It’s also very, very silly. Enjoy.

I think I may have already said all this elsewhere. If so, apologies.

Unfortunately the US Postal Service doesn't overnight to other countries, so I sent it "Global Priority" and it should arrive Monday or Tuesday. I sent them to entertain you while you are sick; though, obviously, I hope you are not still ill when it arrives.
