Canadian toast is what we would call French toast? I don't think I've ever eaten French toast that didn't involve maple syrup; what would be the point?
We had some French (Toulouse) students at work a while back and they didn't have any familiarity with maple syrup… given the usual convolution of food naming traditions, it's a wonder French toast is actually known in France… but I guess they don't traditionally put maple syrup on it in France.
