I feel a bit weird taking pictures that so clearly reflect people's loss, but it's not commercial, and I think this is a beautiful way to pay tribute.

This is where the bats live, although I didn't see any. Writers of post-apocalyptic fiction, enjoy your visuals of what happens when an inhabited place is left alone for a few decades.


I promised no touristy shots but here's a nice view of the Lea.

Oh, wow, the way you've got those shots to come out - the Highgate Station ones are particularly striking, but all of them really.

Those are my favourite. Hard shots, especially because the tour kept moving, but a few came out well.

I figured as much, but had to ask just in case. I'm going to be traveling a lot very soon, and am graduating to a camera just for the occasion. I think it'll be a good investment. :)

I’m of the opinion that the best camera is the one you have on you, and admittedly the Nikon’s weight is a limiting factor in that regard, but the photos quality is so much better.

Yay, you went to Crossbones! Isn't it amazing? I don't know if you got to go inside -- it's all volunteer-run, so opening times are somewhat erratic -- but I'm glad you got to see it.

Crossbones Girl is an episode from "History Cold Case" where they do a forensic investigation on a skeleton from the site (which gives some of the historical context), and ends with one of the monthly remembrance ceremonies.

Alas, it was closed when I went, but the outside in itself was really cool. Also had lunch at the market, which was great, so thanks for the recommendations!

My husband makes Warhammer scenery (set in the grim darkness of the far future) so he's very alert to post-apocolytic scenes like that. His comment is always, "Nice weathering."

I learned this weekend that you can speed it up using yogurt.

Once, when we were out of glue, I suggested using honey to stick the "grass" on the bases. This suggestion was not met with approval.
