We don't see colour or $2.25 million
Aug. 22nd, 2019 08:44 am The Ford Regime loudly scrapped the 2015 Heath and Physical Education curriculum, reverted to an out-of-date 1998 curriculum, and has now made a "new" curriculum that is basically the 2015 curriculum with a few grade levels tweaked, a few things added, and the option to pull your kid out of class if you're a religious fundamentalist who thinks that hearing about teh gay will make your kid gay. These minor tweaks cost the Ontario taxpayers $2.25 million.
Absolutely worth firing 1/5 of high school teachers in the province, right? That's savings right there.
The new Monster of Education, Stephen Lecce, was on CBC this morning waxing poetic about his immigrant family (note: white, Italian) and said twice that "we're conditioning children not to see difference."
Not sure if he was talking about how he doesn't see colour or how no one will notice the fact that he basically swapped back in the original curriculum with one that is almost exactly the same but cost $2.25 million more.
There's going to be an announcement about class sizes at 11:15 today. Wish me luck that I still have a job.

Date: 2019-08-22 02:15 pm (UTC)I've been hoping the tweaked-but-stilly-basically-the-2015 curriculum has been introduced in response to protests about scrapping the Wynne curriculum, while trying to save face by pretending this is a new curriculum the Ford gov't has come up with.
(It's sort of like how there are/were US voters who railed against "Obamacare" but liked the Affordable Care Act?)

Date: 2019-08-23 08:26 pm (UTC)The announcement was that class sizes were not going to be as big as anticipated. Except. The government had nothing to do with that, it caught the school boards by surprise, there's no extra money to make them smaller again or to hire people back, and everyone is confused.
