sabotabby: two lisa frank style kittens with a zizek quote (trash can of ideology)

I've never been a drug dealer and, admittedly, know very little about dealing drugs. I don't even do drugs these days. I have two beers and suddenly I am on the flood declaring my love for everyone in the room and also the floor and for cats in general. Drugs and I are just not a thing with my middle-aged metabolism. So basically I don't have a dog in the legalized-weed race, and I am perfectly happy buying my beer in the government-regulated and unionized LCBO for more than $1, unlike I guess many voters in the province of Ontario who felt that cheap beer and weed were more important than healthcare, their kids' education, or the environment.

I am given to understand, however, that in most places where they've legalized weed, it's been quite a profitable enterprise. People like their weed. Canadians in particular, really really like weed.

You'd think perhaps the one job that Doug Ford, previously a mid-level hash dealer in Etobicoke, would actually be qualified for—unlike running every other facet of the province—would be presiding over the legalization of weed.

Nope! He full-on lost money at it.

Good thing the deficit was only half of what he said it was.

Maybe now he can hire back some of the teachers he fired? No? You mean that none of this is about fiscal responsibility? I am shocked!

The main/only reason I'm for marijuana legalization is that so many POC are in prison for stupidly small amounts of pot. I find it annoying when people smoke in public, I just find it more annoying that IIRC a third of Black American adults can't vote because former felons are bared from voting and so many of us have felony records doe to nonviolent drug offenses that White people by and large just don't get charged with.

All that said, people do love their pot. See above about being annoyed when people smoke in public. Selling pot is the nearestt thing to printing money, and DF managed to lose money doing so. That is freaking hilarious.

Ugh, same here. How can people still be in prison for something not illegal anymore? But people are also still being arrested for something supposedly not illegal anymore, so.

Sometimes I wonder why I continue to hope, but I can't stop. It's not sensible. :)

Yes, this - also, I completely disbelieve in felony disenfranchisement, even when they're still in prison. Unless the crime was vote tampering, I see no reason why criminals shouldn't be able to vote. (I feel even more strongly about that when I see how the census counts prisoners.)

This.

At least where I live having weed (or other drugs) on you isn't illegal if it's below a certain amount, for personal use. But I don't think harsh laws just for possession will ever help anyone. And I agree, it's not coincidental who gets or doesn't get charged with drug offences. How is it possible that I've read/seen on the news that people of this or that ethnic minority are being investigated for dealing, but then when I was at uni the (white) dealers my friends used always seemed to be in the clear?

I, for one, am shocked! Also genuinely surprised, you'd think having sketchy connections would really help with that weed money. O_O I also don't understand people who desperately want cheap beer and weed. If you're not a broke teenager, surely you should have standards!

PS I don't need beer to declare my love for the floor and cats in general (but would need way more than two beers to declare my love for everyone in the room, I likely hate everyone in the room because they're not the floor or cats in general)
