Jagmeet Singh wasn't my first choice for party leader and he legit sucked at first but the more racist F6 butthurt about him there is, the more I like him. He's growing on me.

I wish I could show you the latest campaign material we got, though, because it's hilarious. They took the least flattering pictures of Trudeau and Scheer (which isn't hard; he's like the Pillsbury Doughboy of right-wing fanatics) they could find, which is fine. But the one they got of Jagmeet (who is actually photogenic, usually), involves him being passed a baby and making a face that's the same face I make when I am handed a baby.

Anyway, world, think good thoughts that Scheer keeps digging himself deeper into a hole and stays there.

The fact that he's a dual citizen legit shouldn't matter and is not as funny as the fake insurance salesman, or as serious as the anti-abortion thing, but if it's got legs, I'll take what I can get.

No, it shouldn't be an issue...but for the fact that he made an issue of it re: Michaëlle Jean's appointment as Governor-General in 2005 during Paul Martin's time as PM. Some people still hold grudges over that.

Oh, he's absolutely a hypocrite. It just always surprises me what people glom onto and what they don't (see also: Trudeau's brownface versus Trudeau building pipelines through Indigenous territory and selling arms to the Saudis).

Jagmeet didn't do anything wrong. He's, like, the only one who hasn't had a proper scandal. He just...has a turban. Everyone else:

Trudeau: SNC-Lavalin, brownface/blackface.
Scheer: Many of his candidates are openly racist, one thinks that a human skull of dubious origin is a good birthday gift (I mean I agree but how was that not a scandal???), he shared a stage with Faith Goldy, he lied about being an insurance broker (hahahaha), he has dual citizenship and never thought to mention it, he compared gay marriage to a dog's tail, and he's anti-choice but it took him months to admit it.
May: Many of her candidates are racist or anti-choice, her own views on abortion are uncertain, same with vaccines.
Bernier: Openly fascist, all of his candidates are openly fascist.

And photography. Or at least art direction. Because I would instruct the photographer to not make Jagmeet look like he was deeply uncomfortable when passed a baby by cartoonishly stoked parents.

Right?! I'd feel like he was relatable after seeing a picture like this. It's just not normal that many politicians look so calm when being handed a baby! I can't be the only person who's irrationally afraid of accidentally dropping the baby or making it cry or something.

I don't know much about Jagmeet Singh but Wikipedia says he practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is known for his fashion sense so he's already doing better than most politicians. Also:

He looks like a Disney prince to me. I don't say this as a compliment. Also he is really off-putting because he's a white guy with a Haida tattoo and the artist whose work it is is not happy about it.

He is charming af when he lets his guard down, and I truly don't understand why his advisors don't let him do it more often. During the leadership campaign and after he won he was like...a non-entity. His personality started coming out a bit in the provincial election (his brother ran and won a seat) and now that he's had a few opportunities to shine, I think he'll actually make a decent leader if the party doesn't throw him under the bus. Which it has been doing up until now.

I should clarify that when I say he wasn't my first choice for leader, it's that it's a ranked ballot and there was no one I actually disliked on it. So I ended up asking all of my NDP policy wonk friends who I should rank (after Nikki Ashton, who was my clear favourite) and other candidates had stronger policy points. He's since adopted a lot of them, which is good. Also he's leaps and bounds better than the last guy.
