I have a lot of fandom-type people on my friends list. Not as many as political-type people, though, and there's a significant overlap between the two groups. So here's a meme that's been going around on the fandom end of things, and I'm doing you all a disservice by bringing it into the political realm.
Translation: It's the Pairing List Meme, which essentially works if you have a lot of fandom-based icons and write or read strange fanfic pairings, like Sirius Black/George Bush. Given the subject matter of most of my icons, it works surprisingly well. So:
Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing. Etc.*
Anne Bonny (a pirate lass) / Boilerplate (Victorian-era robot)
Buenaventura Durutti (Spanish anarchist) / Elizabeth Gurley Flynn (rebel girl)
Emiliano Zapata / Emo Dalek (Doctor Who)
George W. Bush / Guy Fawkes
This is funny for one reason, and one reason alone: Guy Fawkes Day Party, 2004. If you don't get the reference, you don't get it.
Handala (Palestinian cartoon character) / Hello Kitty
It’s a testament to how demented I am that I can actually see this working. They’re both cute little cartoon characters that are emblematic of their respective cultures. And did I mention cute? Okay, this is my new OTP.
Hugo Chavez / Jesus of Nazareth
Ahahahaheheheh eh.
Joe Hill (Wobbly bard) / Kareem Said (Oz)
There are many reasons why it is Bad and Wrong to write about Joe Hill in Oz, and why it’s only slightly less Bad and Wrong to write about Said as an IWW organizer in Salt Lake City. But the real reason why this plotbunny needs to be taken out back and drowned is that there’s a grand total of one person who’d be interested in reading something like that. Me.
Leila Khaled / Leon Trotsky
She’d probably like that, too.
Nikita Khrushchev / Marinetti the Cat
This seems a little less wrong given that there was a movie (After the Revolution) that is basically one long LeninCat fanfic. It answered the eternal question: Why aren’t there more stories written about the LeninCat, anyway?
Mary Read (another pirate lass) / Michel Bakunin (Russian anarchist)
Mr. Lies (Angels in America) / Pancho Villa
Phil Ochs / Reg (Monty Python’s The Life of Brian)
Sergei Nechaev (Russian anarchist) / Simon Adebisi (Oz)
Yeah that would end well.
Subcommandante Marcos / Tom Waits
Uncle Sam / Vladimir Lenin
And there you have it, people. The inside of my psyche.
E-cookies to anyone who so much as writes a paragraph of any of these.
*Process note: Alphabetized by first name where applicable. Certain characters, like the guy from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Judea, omitted because they don't have names. Marinetti the Cat is in there but I'm not, because it paired me with Sergei Nechaev and I so don't want to go there. Also, I needed an even number.

Date: 2005-08-26 08:24 pm (UTC)That one would be sexy, but by the time of the Spanish Civil War, Gurley Flynn had turned her back on her Wobbly past and become a Stalinist hack. She probably would have blindfolded Durruti and shot him in the back of the head.

В Россию, С Любловью
Date: 2005-08-26 09:11 pm (UTC)In a fit of despair, he "misplaced" important intelligence, and was thrown in front of four airplanes.
[It's possible I'm going to hell for this. I'm pretty sure I broke my brain. Also, title = "To Russia, With Love," though it's been years since I spoke Russian with any regularity, so it may not be perfect.]

Hell, I'd read that.

Date: 2005-08-26 10:43 pm (UTC)I would like to see the Durruti/Lenin slash though! Big Buenaventura would so pwn Vlad. Leila Khaled/Leon Trotsky, on the other hand, is a pairing worthy of Portnoy.

Also, you just broke my brain envisioning who would top vis a vis Durutti and Lenin. That could be debated in political circles for decades. "This is for Kronstadt, asshole!"
