I can't believe I've made it this far. I am rather stubborn, aren't I? I actually ended up doing a fair bit of art this week.

I'm feeling like most people drew something similar for "2 blocks squishy":

IMG_2808

"satisfying crash" was an obvious one:

IMG_2811

(On a related note, I can't believe regular people eat at Chick-fil-A. Easy for me to say because I don't eat meat as it is, but I have eaten chicken sandwiches in my life and they weren't that good. Like it's not butter chicken, which is objectively the best thing you can make out of a dead dinosaur. It's not the one amazing chicken dish I had in Mexico where I bent my own rules because a union organizer took me out to his favourite chicken place and I didn't want to offend him and it was better than any chicken I'd ever had in my life. It's just...a chicken sandwich. Not worth contributing to a far-right organization that supports torturing gay people. Anyway.)

"go Go":

IMG_2812

Another kind of obvious one. Fun to draw, though.

"Squeakchugger":

IMG_2813

The squeak part was obvious but I looked up chugger, and apparently it's slang for "charity mugger," a.k.a. those poor kids with clipboards and vests that accost you on the street. I always feel bad because it's not their fault but also I hate them and want them to go away. Especially when there are panhandlers around, who really do need the money.

"foot powers." I like the concept of this one but not really the execution. Inktober is really a race against time, though, so if I don't hate something, I don't redraw it:

IMG_2838

"Twelfth meow," conversely, is one of my favourites. It took me three attempts to draw a piano in a satisfactory way. It may require some explanation.

The prompt made me think of a katzenklavier but obviously that’s a horrible thing to draw. So this is a reverse katzenklavier, filled with humans (don’t worry they’re all fascists) and played by a cat. Every time the cat plays a note, the hammer falls on a fascist’s dick and he screams. The fascists are organized by the pitch of their screams to form a scale.

The cat sings along, though not well. She tries her best.

Like the original katzenklavier, it's meant to cure depression.

IMG_2854

Today's was "master plan." There were a lot of things I could draw for this but I went with my cats and I enjoying life under fully automated luxury gay space communism:

You can tell that I lack any proper coloured ink at home, because this is really meant to be in bright colours. But I tend to draw in black and white and do my colouring in Photoshop, which violates the arbitrary rule I set for myself with these challenges.

I didn't hit life drawing this week (alas! It will probably be awhile) but I did get some other arts done!

About three or four years ago when I was taking my qualification for Visual Arts, I made a little clay pot, which I fired, but didn't get around to glazing. Then when I called the clay museum where I made it (on the phone!) to see if they'd let me glaze it there, they were like, "umm, we don't know what you're talking about." So it's been sitting on my kitchen table for years, unglazed and looking a bit meh.

But! A new clay studio opened up near me, and they were happy to let me glaze it! And also they were just great. There was a 5-year-old girl's birthday party happening while I was doing it and they were making polymer rainbow unicorns, so I asked if they were interested in hosting a similar event for slightly inebriated adults. They were into it. Also they have wheel and wine nights. I'm not very good at pottery and I honestly don't want to make a bunch more objects, but it's very cathartic so I at least want to do the unicorn thing.

Anyway, I was very pleased with how it came out, especially as this is only my third attempt at doing any clay, and my second attempt at glazing (the last one was a sculpture of a drag queen that I made in high school).

I did get one bit of life drawing done, which is to say I was doing life drawing with my art class, and during one of the 20-minute poses, they seemed into it enough that I took about five minutes to draw the model. Incidentally, she is an amazing model. The kids' drawings came out impressively well, and I really want to paint her (note to people considering modelling for life drawing: Shaving all or most of your head will make artists love you). I did this with a crappy pencil but it looks like her and her little buddy Yorick.

Finally, I'm doing some baking. After a FB survey, "creepy gross eyeball cake" won out over "cute graveyard scene," which is good because it's easier and requires less fondant. It's for Halloween, but I made the cake and eyeballs in advance, so here they are:

I'm glad you're stubborn and I'm glad you're drawing awesomely.

From the omnivore/carnivore side -- I COMPLETELY agree about being baffled that people eat at Chick-Fil-Hate . I understand the appeal of chicken sandwiches for those of us who eat them, the need for fast food sometimes, all of that -- but knowing my money supported such acts of hate would turn my stomach if I even tried to eat there. Plus, I admit I live on the East Coast, but I've never seen one with Absolutely No Other Fast Food Places Within Five Miles or whatever. People can go other places.

All of this is incredible, omg. I especially love the twelfth meow one, I'd totally buy that as a postcard or something to send to my friends AND enemies (for different reasons). And you say you can't draw animals as well as you draw people...!

Chick-Fil-A doesn't exist here but I don't get why people seem so obsessed with it. Chicken sandwiches exist everywhere!

Prints, take my money!
The clay sculpture is wonderful. I'm glad you got to finish it. I kind of hate glazing and avoid it, but I'm more of a process potter - I love throwing, at least when it's not turning to shit immediately, but I get bored very quickly with the finished ones. More objects.

Aren't these online things where you just upload the image and it makes a ton of different products? I don't have any experience with them but maybe you could do that!

Am I right in assuming that your Inktober prompts are coming from FB?

I am enjoying your Inktober drawings immensely.

If you need more live drawing in your life, GAS has live drawing sessions on Sunday mornings (10AM-1PM) though that may not fit your schedule.

Man, Yorick gets around.

The first thing I thought of was this local jeweler who uses medical-grade glass eyes to make rings and other jewelry; it's actually a family tradition that goes back to his old man, Alfred Albrizio II, who had a family jewelry store called C'est Magnifique. Alfred Albrizio III now has a business—sadly not a storefront—called Sterling Assault.

Actually, a lot of jewelers use glass eyes, as a cursory search on Etsy will show.

Eyeballs! Tentacles! Cats playing the piano!

Lookit all these riches.

I love the drawings! All of them, but maybe especially "The Twelfth Meow," "Satisfying Crash," and "2 Blocks Squishy."

I miss life drawing, too.
