After years of people telling me to do it, I deleted my LJ.

Feel sad about it, but it was a security problem (my account got hacked several times) and increasingly a pain to cross-post. There's a bare minimum of folks there who don't post here, and so I ended up just having to scroll through it every morning for the one or two entries that I might want to see. And let's be honest, even if I never go back to Eastern Europe, I just don't want Putin's goons knowing that much about my life.

It feels weird. LJ was my primary internet home for so long, and it was there I met most of the folks who would be most influential on my life and the way I think. I had a super nostalgic discussion about it on FB last night and apparently I influenced a lot of people too.

But you know. I'm still here. In case you need your Sabotabby Ranting About Politics, Etc. fix. I have many things to say about how FB and Twitter have destroyed the internet, so I'm not going to give up old school blogging any time soon.

I haven't deleted my LJ, but I set all the entries to private (except the last one saying I'm on DW only) and not cross-posting, and changed my password and email again. I keep the account open so I can still nostalgically read the LJs of friends who are long gone. Maybe I will delete my private posts since they got migrated over here. That feels really hard and final, though. I love LJ and DW as a concept and a community. Filtered entries, who doesn't want those? On DW I don't even filter entries, they're all friends-only or private since I don't know that many folks and am not having personal drama with anyone. And I paper-journal also, but find the inability to search/tag my handwritten scrawl a little annoying.

I should probably add you on LJ; since I had the perspecuity to buy a Permanent account on LJ early on, it will take a real catastrophe to cause me to delete my account there.

Are you crossposting, or keeping them separate? I made a reading filter on LJ for folks not on DW, but there are hardly any new posts.

I'm generally crossposting, although the post I made yesterday refused to crosspost.

Never mind.

Yeah, I did that a while back, and it still really hurts. I miss all the conversations so much. I'm really glad you are still here.

I really should go and delete mine, too. I miss what it was when it was what it was.

I set up this account the first time everyone on LJ began to talk about leaving (I forget if it was Strikethrough or if it was when the site was first sold to a Russian company), but didn’t fully move over until a few years ago when the mass exodus happened, at which time I closed my LJ account. It’s easier to transfer from one platform to another if most of the people you follow are doing the same.

You inspired me to finally delete my LJ. The last time I posted publicly there was...2003?

Deleted my LJ a few years back. It was a bit mournful to let go of the connections to other journals and comments. I saw that some had deleted theirs prior to my deletion, though.

Ok, I just started the import so I can pull the plug on LJ. I am surprised how sad I am thinking about that. I hate fb and twitter, but I also had very mixed feelings about LJ. But...it was a big part of my life, whether I admit that easily or not. And I have no regrets about the friends I made and kept there.
