Feeling the need to note this for posterity, as my memory isn't good but it's better than that of any public official in office.

From August to September, the threshold for declaring an epidemic in a school was two infections in the same building.

In November, 12 students infected in one school is not considered an outbreak. Nor 9 students and 4 teachers. There is no threshold for declaring an outbreak. Outbreaks cannot happen in schools, because schools are safe and kids need to be in schools for their mental health.

I have an acquaintance and now fb friend who was urging people not to call for school closures because her wee one needed the social time. This is just going to go badly at every juncture because people are irrational and get extra irrational about their offspring.

This part has definitely been most frustrating.

Just amazing.

Good thing it isn't people's pets going to school; people are insane about their furbabies.

Hey, so am I. If you saw the wall of cat food cans I've amassed in the kitchen, you'd know I'm insane. (Also because most of these are the discontinued My Little Lion food and I'm hoarding it.)

The goalposts didn't need moving apparently, they needed to be destroyed.

Current research suggest under-tens don't get very sick and also don't spread the virus much, and, as we all know, all students are under ten years old, so schools are safe!

Can you provide references for that? I remember that being an early guess/assumption -- but not recent. Or, more particularly, references for the part about "don't spread the virus much". This seems particularly unlikely, as they spread just about everything else really really well.

I knew sending kids back to school was going to fuck the numbers -- I find it hard to believe that any sensible person didn't. I fully believe that this was done 100% for political reasons.
