Just so you all know, yesterday, I officially decided not to drink for a month. (So...I'm allowed to drink Oct. 19.) Seems to be the thing to do lately.

If I break this resolution, yell at me. The incentive is that if I stick to this, I'll be able to get fabulously drunk on Halloween.

I'm sort of curious as to how tempted I'll be to break it. I don't think I'll have much time to be social for the next month, anyway, and at least one person with whom I spend a lot of time is doing the same thing, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

yeah... i sort of stopped drinking without realising i'd done it. I looked back and realised I'd gone about four or five months without a pint or even a glass of wine.

See, my lovely family gets together Sunday evenings and I'll usually have a glass of wine then. It's little things like that which make this tricky.

Yeah... I think the fact that my dad prefers the company to a can of beer than listening to anything i have to say kind of adds to my whole disinterest in getting drunk these days.

Apparently he doesn't have a drinking problem. Oh no. In his words, beer IS only 4% alcohol which means it's MOSTLY water anyway. And there's nothign wrong wtih drinking from 10AM on a saturday until 4PM, falling asleep, waking up at 7 and drinking until 10, then repeating this again on Sunday EVERY weekend and day off.

I just found out that Noah's ($$ ick! $$) sells Yogi Teas. I had bought their Cocoa Spice Tea in Vancouver this summer so I bought some more of that, and some of their chai. The cocoa spice is supremely good, if you're into chocolate.

So anyway, come have some tea. =) I promise not to drink in your presence nor to spike your tea. Hehehe.

Oooh, I'm into chocolate. Although that sounds suspiciously like this stuff I had during the CUPE 3903 strike. CAW came around in their trucks and offered us "coffee, tea, or hot chocolate." Regardless of what one ordered, it would come out as a rather weird blend of all three. Very Douglas Adams.

Hahaha. Speaking of which, I realized that this cocoa tea is "herbal" tea, which is codespeak for "doesn't have any actual tea leaves at all". So I have had to dip both a bag of tea, and a bag of this cocoa tea, in order to get the caffeine and the cocoa. It didn't taste much different than without the tea. But next time I think I'll make a whole pot. The only problem is that F won't touch the thing (she's an orangepekoean fundamentalist) so I'll need to share the pot with someone ;]

Good luck! Tricky gig - generally when I give up the demon drink for a season I have either religious obligation or cultural imperative (plus simple unavailability) to bolster my willpower. But I'm sure you can do it!

I do not drink very much at all (one of those Alcoholic Dad childhoods will do that, I find), so, while I can't say I feel your pain, I do wish ya luck! You'll be back on the sauce by the time I'm in town , so I won't miss any of the Demon Drink antics, lucky me.

I found a place for a couple of months, a little attic room in a house in Parkdale, shared areas with the dude downstairs, who seems cool...not ideal, but not a nightmare, and should buy me some time to get a job, get set up, get a more permanent place...

Well, compared to Montreal, the rent will be a bit of a shock. But that goes for most neighbourhoods. My rent is a lot, but that's also because I live alone -- if you're willing to share you can find some good places. I doubt it will ever return to the pre-rent-control days, but at least it's not outrageous now.

"a bit" of a shock? Double the rent in Montréal (on the Plateau!) is more than "a bit". =)

human_loser, check out Walmer street at Bloor (1 west of Spadina), there are a bunch of apartment towers with 1BR vacancies there, so you can just walk around rather than hunt for places in the paper. It'll give you and idea, anyway. The houses on other streets (like Brunswick, for example) rent at prohibitous prices, from my experience.

I got absurdly drunk on Saturday and woke up with such an intense panic attack on Sunday that I had to take tranquilizers to calm myself down. Whatever brain cells govern my sense of direction and timing seem to have been disabled or killed, because ever since then I've been getting lost and running late.

I haven't been in good shape, stress-wise, and it seems like I should be watching my health a bit more.

Heh. I find that drinking gets rid of anxiety but gives rise to (the propensity to) anger. You have the reverse problem. :)
