I find it interesting in general and have some Strong Personal Opinions on the matter, so maybe not the best opening. But like. He legitimately just wanted to talk about it. I honestly think that he was a real person who was bored and wanted to talk about politics and Nietzsche with complete strangers on the internet.

I am legit concerned that the West is either going let Putin walk all over Ukraine, anschluss-style, or is going end up at war with Russia, and neither's a great option.

Which is a lot of the problem.

Ultimately, there aren't good sides to this (which was what I was arguing in said discussion. Putin is an imperialist (I have no interest in the weird tankie assertion that only Western countries can be imperialist. Ukrainian nationalists are all a bunch of fascists. They're absolutely being propped up by the US, which is both fascist and imperialist.

The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians I've met in Ukraine* just want to live their lives in peace. Most seem to feel that they'd be better off as part of the EU with some sort of vaguely Western democracy, but I have no idea if they speak for the majority or not.

One of my favourite people in the entire world is from Donetsk, and I have roots in Lviv (though I didn't know it until a few years ago) and it is fucking heartbreaking what is happening there. There aren't good answers.

* A lot of the ones in Canada are fash and also don't need a say, since they live here now.
