But anyway Lobsterboi rage-quit UofT in a hilarious display of histrionics. I won't link to it because I don't want to give the NationalSocialist Post the clicks but the whole thing is extremely funny and you can read it if you want to put those kinds of words in your brain meat.
The reason he flounced is not, I'm quite convinced, that academia has become too woke that a cishet white man cannot catch a break anymore. It's more likely that he is a reanimated corpse kept mobile by the necromantic machinations of young Mikhaila Peterson's demon-possessed sorcerer boyfriend. Or he's making more on Patreon, or both.
If he were true to his beliefs he'd have to admit that the turn academia has taken is the inevitable result of the natural superiority of queer BIPOC academics with blue hair and they/them pronouns climbing to their place in the hierarchy over inferior cishet male academics, just as the unusual blue colouration of a lobster renders it fitter for survival in our modern order, but he'd rather be a whiny baby about it, clearly.

Date: 2022-01-21 12:32 pm (UTC)And tbh of the two friends I know who got tenure this year, one comes from a well-off family who could support him through bouts of poverty and the other has a tenure-track partner. Both are white so it's clearly not impossible for white people to get academic jobs these days. Both are absolutely brilliant and deserve it and the university and students are lucky to have them, but that level of grind is not something that many BIPOC academics are able to commit to.
Like I also think of a student teacher I have who, again, was absolutely brilliant. They were a biracial, queer, nonbinary artist from a working class background. They check a whole bunch of demographic boxes that my employer says it wants and the schools desperately need. But the program (which is much shorter and cheaper than grad school) wasn't able to accommodate the modified schedule they needed for financial and health reasons, so they dropped out. I was so pissed about it because this person is an amazing educator and would have made such a difference for so many kids. It's the complete opposite of what Lobsterboi is claiming about the scales somehow being weighted in favour of these supposed less talented and smart BIPOC academics. BIPOC/queer/trans/disabled etc. academics have always had to have been way more talented and work way harder than their more privileged peers to get the crumbs that neoliberal education systems throw them. /rant

Jordon Steele-John [a left/green Australian politician and disability rights advocate who is great on every issue I've ever heard him speak about, including LGBT issues, the environment, refugees and more]
I never confuse who the two men are, I just "verbal typo" the names.
I also sometimes verbal typo Jordan Peele [superbly talented and hardworking Black film maker] into the mix as well, but he doesn't come up quite as often in conversation
