Timur, a guitar player of Russian hardcore band Sandinista!, was killed in a street fight by a group of neo-nazis in the country's supposedly cultural capital of St. Petersburg. Timur and a musician from another hardcore band were approached by nazis as they were coming back from Food Not Bombs food-giveaway. A young man in his twenties bled to death before ambulance arrived at the crime scene in roughly 20 minutes.

I went to the anti-Sharon protest. Sharon, by the way, was a no-show, which most of us expected but still took some people by surprise. He addressed the United Jewish Communities General Assembly via video-conference at the Metro Convention Centre. We hung about outside and demonstrated. It was a remarkably good turnout for a cold, dark Monday night. I may post photos, but since it was so dark, they all turned out like crap. But every other person there had a camera so maybe someone's turned out better than mine.

On a shallow note, it was one of those demos where almost everyone was dressed sensibly, so it's too bad that I lose at nighttime photography.

I used to all the time, when my icon choices were the Day of the Dead zombie-thing, the Molotov cocktail waitress, and Kareem Said from Oz. That covers most subjects but not everything.

I can cover most topics with up to 100 icons, although I'm still sort of lacking in the fangirlish and hardcore anarchist categories. I still have 20 more icons to go, though, which I'm likely just to fill with Hello Kitty stuff.

I felt a bit guilty about using this icon for this post, but what can I say? I have a very twisted sense of humour.

life is such that without a sense of humor, we'd be crying all the time. Sad about that guitarist, ire inducing as well. Fucking nazis... as if there wasn't enough needless violence in the world, and they're still tromping about. Ugh.

At the industrial relations rally today I counted 10 Che t-shirts and 1 Che baseball cap. I have photos to post later (although most are not of the Che t-shirts).

I asked the woman in the cap and the guy I photographed - he told me where to buy the shirt (CMFEU head office) and that the money from the sale goes to Cuba.

I didn't ask the young hipster types - I should have done so but I couldn't be bothered talking to them

Ugh to Neo-Nazis and Sharon. I didn't know Sharon was going to be in TO- I would have told my brother to go to the protest... Come to think of it though, I'm not sure what he thinks about Sharon. He seems to have a preoccupation for having "balanced" views.

Glad the protest was a success. I'm not sure we'd have an anti-Sharon protest here. I think very few people really know what's going on.

I don't think he was ever really going to be in TO. Although I'm sure nothing would have happened, the amount of security they would have needed would have been astronomical.

now, i'm not pro-nazi (although, like the Empire and cobra (http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/cobra.html), they did have some rockin' uniforms...not that i would wear a uniform...unless i could look like Destro (http://www.yojoe.com/filecard/83/destro.shtml) and get to date the Baroness (http://www.yojoe.com/filecard/84/baroness.shtml)) but should i lament the loss of this guitar player because a valuable, talented musician was taken from the world? What if he was really horrible? Should we then not backhandedly support this action?

Sensibly dressed people are the ones who change the world. Good fashoin sense is said to reflect good sense is general. I, however, have NO fashion sense. I am not sure what this reflects.

Haha, Cobra! The Baroness has an ugly uniform, though.

I have no idea whether this guy was any good or not. But he got murdered coming back from a Food Not Bombs thing, so even if he was a terrible musician, his heart was in the right place.
