podcast friday
Jul. 26th, 2024 07:27 am I swear to god I am not being paid by Vajra Chandrasekera or Tor Books to shill. It's just that he is that good. Probably shaping up to be one of the best SFF authors of our time. I'm about a third of the way through Rakesfall and it is that good.
Anyway he was on DEATH // SENTENCE, which is also that good: "Vajra Chandrasekera, Anti-colonial Violence, Scale, and Time." They're obviously the perfect people to interview him, as they get his writing not just on a literary level but also on a political and philosophical level. It's particularly interesting to hear Eden (who grew up in Tel Aviv) talk about the parallels between colonialism and violence in Israel and Palestine and Sri Lanka.
Important note: They claim on the podcast that they are going to spoil the whole book (which they also did when they discussed The Saint of Bright Doors but if you're concerned, they don't really and also this is not the kind of book that can be spoiled. As in if you just describe what happens in it, it sounds like an incredibly high person describing a dream they had, and makes no sense out of context. So you don't lose anything by listening to this before reading either Rakesfall or Saint, and if you're like me, you'll only get more hyped about it.
