I liked Disco and the first season of SNW; almost everything else has been a garbage fire. You should repost your essay about the death of camp.

E and I just finished ep 3 and we like it, in smallish doses. Too many boy stories right now, but there are some characters who I know I'm going to grow to love.

My favourite so far is Holly Hunter (I keep forgetting her character's name) and Genesis. The boys are mostly forgettable beyond the fact that I keep being angry that there's a Klingon named Jayden.

My favorites are Lura Thok (I always liked the Jem'Hadar), Genesis, Sam (she's so CUTE!), and the commander/captain).

I KNOW! I have had so many sulky Jadens over the last few years....

I'm thinking about it! One obstacle is that I've heard I need to watch Discovery first, which I haven't watched yet. Thoughts on that?

I love Starfleet Academy. There are annoying bits. Myself, I am unsmitten by either Holly Hunter or her character Nahla Ake. Smug and unkind.

I am very attached to some of the secondary characters (Ocam, Kyle, B'avi, Dzolo) [2-SPOILER], and I am deeply attached to SAM and Derem and Genesis.

VERY attached to Lura Thok. Yes, please. She should have her own spinoff.

One of the things I am enjoying is the storytelling - meaning that each cadet's story is told in a style appropriate to them. Jay-Den's is sepia and stark. SAM's is bright and loud and childlike. And so on.

I grew up waiting for the next episode of black and white Star Trek to be shown on TV. Miss one and you wouldn't see it for years. Talk about flakey storylines, and mighty plot holes, and inconsistent character development, and general woo-woo handwavium. I luuuuurved it. There is NOTHING a new series can do that is non-Trekkie.

A college story about college-age people is going to be sophomoric [1]. Fine. Boring romance between the chosen one and the very very bad boy. Okay. Very close bonding of same gender that may develop into more. Yes, let's do that. I *want* to see a throuple of Derem, Jay-den, and Kyle. *WANT*.

So... Can I come here and ingenuously fangirl all over? Pretty please?

And yes, by all means fangirl! I would like some positivity about the show and it's early enough that I'm not attached to my opinion on it.

I'm struggling to know who to associate those names with (even Lura Thok), and I like the show.

I hadn't twigged that the style changed that much, but now I totally see it.

I spent much of the last episode thinking B'avi was "Barry", and wondered why the computer was named that.

I had the same issue in Disco, but I assumed it was because the stories were All Michael, all the time. I did not have the issue with SNW (but I do keep wondering where Dr Boyce is).

I assume Derem is Fish Bully (since he's from that kind of family)? I'm going to have to figure out who Kyle is. (I'm guessing someone from the War College or Empathic Princess' brother).

There really are some very wrong opinions about Star Trek here. :P

I'm generally happy to have any Trek, and I think I have watched All The Trek (including The Orville, and excluding some Voyager episodes) at least once and usually twice, and many "Trek" shows (The voyages continue or whatever, Renegades.... cut scenes from video games stitched into movies).

I expected to hate Spacefleet School, so from the low bar of generally disliking Disco, Picard 1-2 and Section 31, I'm just surprised it's not a garbage fire.

It's a low bar. but it improved my Thursday nights.

The thing is that the last seasons of SNW and most of Picard were so fuckin' bad that the bar is under the floor for me, and if it's at least a little entertaining and they occasionally do speeches about the importance of diplomacy, I will keep turning in. But they would do themselves a solid not to make DS9 references that remind us all of when Trek was better.
