I very easily get bad headaches from emotional stress, and sometimes I don't realise what the cause is at first.

Thing is, I'm stressed, I get headaches whenever the pressure changes (and it changes daily!), I haven't seen a proper eye doctor in a few years, and I have a crap monitor at work. ;) So I don't know what's causing it.

Actually I think I read that migraines can be a cumulative type of thing, eventually there's just one too many triggers, the straw that broke the camel's back and you end up with a head ache.

It's something I can tick so that I can see poll results. I'm amused that more people seem to think it's the cause than think weather is causing it, even though that's the most likely explanation.

I would have checked "all of the above except for the serious cause that would make you see a doctor". It's probably just stress/weather/contacts/monitor.

I would have checked "it's probably one of the above, but see a doctor anyway to rule out anything more serious." I've been to see a neurologist for my newest killer headaches, and he wants to give me an MRI, but we are waiting for approval from my insurance company. As a Canadian, you do not have a lousy medical system based upon private profit and insurance as an excuse. Go already.

This is true, but what I don't have is a GP. There are a few walk-in clinics I could go to, but they tend to be utterly useless (my last experience involved them sending me hopping all over town on one leg after I sprained my ankle because they didn't have x-rays and I didn't have a car). So I am reluctant to go to those.

I really should get a GP. My last one disapproved of my lifestyle so I stopped going to her.

In Canada, while you don't need approval from an insurance company to get an MRI, you need to wait 3 to 9 months to get said MRI.

If we could combine our system with the funding the American system gets, we'd be in the best of both worlds. The U.S. spends the highest $ per capita on healthcare but gets proportionally really bad results, i.e. the money is spend on only one portion of the population...

France has the best system in the world and it's a two-tier system. There's got to be a way to reach their level of success.

9 months is a long time to wait, but I don't think that 3 months is unusual to wait for an MRI in the US. I have a recent HMO horror story in the family...

My niece is a french citizen, she had to go to the hospital in the U.S. and it was entirely paid for by the french government.

O.k., I know you don't like my neighbourhood, but my clinic is good, and I have a decent doctor, who has never made comments about my lifestyle. Also they have a pain clinic in-house.

I also have an eye-doctor, but he's really out of the way. I only visit him because he's been my optometrist for a very long time.

Chances are the headaches are that nasty combination of stress/weather/work/eyes, but that's no reason not to take care of yourself.

I figure I'll find one close by after we move, or at least transit-accessible. I think I'll live until then. All of the ones people have recommended to me are way the hell out there, so I'll probably end up going to the one which is least way the hell out there.

I used to have the most awesome optometrist. She was very gruff and Eastern European and it was very scary when she yelled at me for not taking breaks on the computer. She was inspiring, I tell you. She was not that pleased once her services stopped being covered under OHIP, so she closed up shop. I suspect it's because she was a socialist but I never talked politics with her.

My doctor's is at least right on the Bloor/Danforth line. Eye doc is transit accessible, but it takes for-bloody-ever.

You can't? My eye doctor never does the annoying eye-drop thing. I've never really understood what it's for.

It dilates your pupils. They always do it to me; I have some potential for retina detatchment (wouldn't that be fun?), or at least that's their excuse for doing horrific things to me. Those drops make you incapable of reading anything below 24-point type for a few hours. It's what I imagine Hell to be like.

Sorry about the headaches. I usually get 2 migraines/month. I think they're hormonal, but I don't have time to go to the Dr. either. I work full-time and have benefits, and no time to use them!!
Any other headaches are tension related and I use a small wooden Buddha, (the kind you get in Chinatown) to relieve the pressure points in the neck and shoulder area. Has to be the Chinese bald, round headed Buddha, though.

I always forget non-advil headache cures, and I haven't found one that works. I wish I had some ideas for you. Buddha is all I got!

Hmm, I could find a Buddha easily enough, I think. Knowing how to use it is a different story.
