Yeppers. They take the skin from your palate, which then regenerates itself quickly. Dentists even call it a "benign procedure". My ass.

Actually the guy doesn't need a gum graft. (my dad performs them, fyi, and it's periodontists that do so, not just any dentist)

He has a lot of gum.

Likely with teeth like that, he has bone loss.

He could have all his teeth pulled and get implants; however, he may be to far gone for that, and certainly he wouldn't take care of himself enough to support healing.

I thought that was Shane McGowan even before I clicked through to nihilistic_kid's journal. (Cassidy from Preacher is modeled on him, more clearly so in the early issues; looking at photos of Shane, I can see why other characters occasionally describe oul' Proinsias Cass as "ugly".)
