Right, so now the Eyrie's internets are back up and I can post about exciting gardening.
So we have a roof garden. It is Just For Us. Mad Mary the Landlady gets the garden in the front of the house, and the community garden across the street (although I guess we can work on that, too), but we have the only apartment with roof access. How awesome is that?
It looks much like this:

Previous tenants, at least for the last few years, have not cared very much about having a garden.

We got garden tools, soil, and plants, and had at it. My arms and legs are still sore. Every single planter was a massive den of weeds, and it was a great deal of fun committing plant genocide all over the roof.
We planted:

Cucumbers!

Sweet peppers!

Cherry tomatoes!
As well as two types of eggplant (the usual kind, and finger eggplants), hot peppers, celery, and red leaf lettuce.
We are soon going to plant herbs of various sorts and maybe catnip and some flowers.
Squee!

If you don't want me to take your picture, don't always be in my neighbourhood being all cute and fuzzy and stuff. Just sayin'.
On a completely different note, I have been distracting myself with more Doctor Who. I was a mite irked that they wrote off Mickey, although everyone saw it coming last week, because damn, I liked him. He had, I think, more of a traditional Companion role than Rose did, in the sense of being the character that most of us are going to relate to. (If we're supposed to relate much to Rose, someone's fucking up in a lot of episodes. Because while I like her character, she's now too much a part of the Doctor's life to be the viewer's window in.)
Besides, he was pretty. Anyway, I hope he fixed the carpet before taking off for Paris, as it would suck to choose to stay behind only to have his granny die because he forgot. Again. Did that bother anyone else?

Date: 2006-05-24 11:47 pm (UTC)I think your garden is bigger than my apartment. Seriously.
Lovely though! Very fun!

Date: 2006-05-24 11:51 pm (UTC)My garden is about twice the size of my last apartment. At least.

Date: 2006-05-24 11:47 pm (UTC)(Not really. There are catnip plants all over my yard, and I haven't been cat-mugged yet. Though there was one mooch who had me half convinced s/he was lost.

Date: 2006-05-25 12:06 am (UTC)At your mental image. I want a matching Gaybortion!
They don't get that crazy - they tend to rub on it and lay under it and just get sleepy stoned not stupid.
I don't think you will have any problems.
One thing I might suggest is giving the plant a headstart (they will sometimes kill the baby plant) by putting it under a birdcage or something until it starts taking off - after that they get big fast.

Date: 2006-05-25 12:15 am (UTC)Way cool garden! I wish I had time to plant a graden, but right now I'm just excavating the overgrowth. Plus the deer always eat up our bounty. Oh well!
Cool cat too. Foof!

Date: 2006-05-25 12:30 am (UTC)I love that cat. He's like, the #3 cat in the neighbourhood in my estimation. (#1 is Mr. Orange, #2 is the wee black one.)
Not counting mine, of course, but they're not allowed outside.

Date: 2006-05-25 12:34 am (UTC)There are four that come around here on a regular basis. (including one regular racoon and the new skunk.) I'm resisting the urge to give them Star Trek names! (Lord of the Rings, perhaps?

Date: 2006-05-25 01:11 am (UTC)I hear it's a bad season for strawberries with all that rain we had, which really bums me out. I <3 strawberries almost as much as your deer.

Date: 2006-05-25 05:27 am (UTC)I like Rose too, but she has got to lay off the mascara a bit. I mean honestly.

Date: 2006-05-25 01:47 pm (UTC)Rumour has it that there were some deleted bits in that episode, having to do with Rickey and Jake being a couple. So perhaps the scene where Mickey fixed it was deleted too...?

Date: 2006-05-25 09:44 pm (UTC)I just sat through 5 hours of meeting with business strategists. I feel like I'm in an alternate universe...

Date: 2006-05-25 09:23 am (UTC)I have a feeling that's not the last we'll see of Mickey. "Impossible" tends to be quite flexible in these things, and parallel universes are great things to dip in and out of when you want a good one-off storyline.
