I lose. It's May 31st, and I'm already wearing sandals outside of the house. I've been defeated by global warming (I shouldn't have to resort to such desperation until August at least). Now everyone has to see my toes, although at least I painted the nails Trollop Red.

I hate sandals.

Anyway, the heatwave yesterday was lots of fun.


The kitties did not think so, however.




Our tomato plants are starting to blossom already. I counted two the day before yesterday, and four yesterday.


It was so hot that I had to water the plants twice. Also, I don't know what's up with my hair in this shot.


This has nothing to do with the rest of the photos, but I thought it was funny.

Tonight, I'm off to a UNITE HERE! rally for the hotel workers. If you're in the Toronto area, you should go too.

I had garlic-infused vodka. It was disappointing. Now that I'm home, I suspect most borscht will be disappointing, as it lacks black cherries and wine.

I have a co-worker fresh from the Ukraine and we had a 3 hour conversation about beets yesterday.



She said "our" beets are just confused potatoes.

I'm not sophisticated enough to tell the difference. All I know is that Russian borscht > Canadian borscht.

My dad made some bad ass purple soup back in the day - and I know there was wine in it because I was a kid and thought it was so naughty!

If at all possible - try out the drink - I want someone else to find out how fucking good it is and every other person I have talked to has reacted with disgust.

It was about 10 or 12 degrees here. I'm starting to doubt this whole global warming thing. Either that, or it's very selective in determining which areas of the world get heat and which ones don't.
