I dunno. I don't buy it. Canada's anti-terror laws are up for renewal soon, and the timing is just too convenient.

Thoughts?

EDIT: The stench of bullshit just got a bit stronger; looks like a friend knows some of these folks. Keep watching for further updates.

"A source who asked not to be named said information provided by U.S. officials played a part in the Canadian arrests."

says it all right there.

& can we say "islamophobia?" the women pictured aren't wearing burqas, as the star says.

I recall that they RCMP found similar bomb-making materials just prior to the OAS conference here in Windsor in 2000, complete with images, and used it to seal the borders to many obviously peaceful protesters.

I'll treat this with the same suspicion. It is convenient, I agree. Not sure what to think...

Now we know it was a sting operation... The same kind that they used before the summit america to ensnare the Germinal group, where they actually created fake long-distance courrier jobs for 6 people, and then the RCMP informant basically became the ringleader trying to radicalize these guys. Then just before the Summit, the RCMP packed a car with an exercise grenade and some other "potentially dangerous" materials, sent the guys on their way for another courrier run, and then "intercepted" the car just before Québec City. Of course the newspapers were all "violent activists arrested!!" and justified the violent crackdown during the summit.

Interesting that we've just had a terror raid in London, same day, allegedly looking for a chemical weapon. Nothing found yet.

OMG it's an international Commonwealth conspiracy!!!

Yes! I just posted about that.

Suspect or what?

Damn. Our conspiracy has been unmasked.

Heh. I know just EXACTLY how you feel. Same damn thing happened in London the day before and one of them got shot without warning or knowledge that police were in his home. AND the stories of WHERE he got shot have already changed several times. Arm. Shoulder. Chest.

Extremely fishy. This will probably be hailed as a success of the illegal wiretap program. I'm visiting my brother in LA and he just got back from Toronto. I was telling him about the story and why I think it's fishy- he thinks I'm a nut.

Yeah, but it says that some of the intel was provided by US officials so that could be the wire tapping link...

I dunno, I'll check.

If so, it will be the reverse of the Centennial shirts situation - mostly small.

I'd be interested to read your updates. I do take you point on the timing of the arrests, but it sounds to me like these were ordinary goombah amateurs who hung around the wrong part of teh "In-tar-webs". If they had ever gotten it together to do more than make breast-beating videotapes, they probably would have blown themselves up like the Weatherpeople.

I could be wrong, though.
