Remote-controlled flying police drones, coming soon. As Slacktivist points out, the drones proposed in this failed initiative are the sorts of things that killed Daraz Khan for being nearly as tall as Osama bin Laden.

This is a crap idea for other reasons, mainly that we're not ready for the future yet, as we don't have nearly enough gratuitous Kanji lettering in primarily English-speaking locales, and we don't seem to have any hover cars whatsoever.

Says Fred:
Flying police drones, usually armed, are a staple of dystopian science fiction. The key word there is "dystopian." What is it that makes some people watch Bladerunner or Dark Angel or even Waterworld and think: "Gee, how can we make our society more like this postapocalyptic fantasy world?"
For other news, I will save you all some time and suggest that you just go read [livejournal.com profile] springheel_jack's journal today.

This is one of those lazy-assed entries I end up making when there's a lot of good bloggage going on but I'm in the office, the phone's ringing off the hook, and I'm taking off for the long weekend tomorrow*. It's just been that sort of day.

* Incidentally, that is not an invitation to start flamewars in [livejournal.com profile] free_palestine, even though it always happens when I go away for a weekend.

There is DEFINITELY not enough gratuitous Kanji lettering to go around.

Yeah! Gorram that gratuitous Kanji bullshit. More the better.

Heyheyhey, let's not forget about the gratuitous hiragana now.

Not at all. While we're at it, we might consider peppering Katagana among the usual fare of Latin lettering just to piss off the grammaniacs.

The To-Build List

O.k., I'll add the Hover Car.

The list now reads:

Transporter
Watermelon cannon for the roof
Bat house for the roof
Hover car
Mooring pad for hover car on the roof
Rainwater collection contraption for the roof

It's a very good thing the roof is big.

I recommend that we not put the transporter there, nonetheless. It can go in the office.

Have I left anything off?

Alternatively, we could put the transporter on the kitchen fire-escape. I'd have to move my plants to the other fire escape or to the roof, but they're small, and wouldn't crowd the roof significantly.

Oh! Right! I did forget the bike-pulley. Silly me.

I'd still want a bike. I'm not sure what the transporter would run on. It might be more environmentally friendly to use the bike for daily commutes to work and rely on the transporter only when I'm late, in the winter, or when I have to go to Boston.

Again, what if the as-yet-to-be-designed transporter is less than efficient, so that starting and stopping it is like starting and stopping a car, in terms of generating harmful waste or requiring a lot of whatever the energy source is. It might be simply more sensible to have a bike pulley.

Is there some reason you don't want a bike pulley? Pulleys are cool!

Do you have a ready source of dilithium? Also, how expensive is it?

I'd prefer a transporter that ran on bat poop. If we build the bat house, we'll have a ready supply of that.

Bat poop it is, then.

Dilithium is too problematic. The transporter is on my To-Build list. I can't wait around until dilithium is discovered! By then I'll be too old to go dancing.

holy craptastic that link just made my whole day ... week even hahahaha ... i could barely handle swank's version of grammar... but the commments were what really did me in

"New windows Vista(tm), kills womb babies at 30 billion operations per second, that’s 9.3 babyhurtz."

best comment ever.

i think what amazed me the most was how many comments it took before someone wondered whether the wombbaby was related to the wombat or not.
