Wingnuts of the Day
Jul. 4th, 2006 11:01 amVia CuteOverload of all places (it's a long story), check out Activist Cash, courtesy of the Astroturf Center for Consumer Freedom. It's all about how the Humane Society and various environmental groups are teh evil. Sweet!
I love this particular breed of wingnut for its shameless appropriation of left-wing vocabulary—namely, "choice." One might understand it if they were in favour of, say, labelling genetically modified food and letting the free market decide. (Presumably, most people don't want fish genes in their tomatoes.) But, like good right-wingers, they don't actually trust people to make the choices they want; hence the need to redefine "choice" to mean something other than the standard dictionary definition.
This is even better, though. LGF Watch has a link to (Black) wingnut La Shawn Barber's heartfelt defense of the right of neo-Nazi groups to advocate killing her people. She's apparently a fan of Prussian Blue and has included a rather cute picture of them.
The last link isn't about wingnuts. I don't have much to say about it that hasn't already been said, besides this: It's inevitable. This is what happens when you invade and occupy a country. It's not an act of a lone individual. It's a consequence of going to war. (Warning: You probably know which story I'm linking to, but in case you don't, it contains probable triggers.)
Happy Fourth of July, America.

Date: 2006-07-04 09:28 pm (UTC)WTF have I been missing over at CO?

Date: 2006-07-05 01:22 am (UTC)There was an otherwise adorable post on CO with links back to the ALF site; some people, predictably, got all excited. I'm no fan of the ALF, but there's a certain vitriol that gets directed at them (and PETA, and ELF) that I don't think they deserve. Anyway, a debate arose as to whether or not the ALF are turrists, and some guy pulled out the astroturf site as "evidence."

Date: 2006-07-05 03:38 am (UTC)Whatevs, that place hates on Farm Sanctuary. They hate on things that are nice. Meanies.
Which post was it? I kinda wanna go see the wank disaster area.

Date: 2006-07-05 04:53 am (UTC)It is kind of awesome cute/politix crossover wank, though.
And I am so annoyed all the time by Peta, but reading someone on Cute Overload calling them terrorists? OMG! Plus:
Meg -- ALF is to PETA as Earth First! is to Greenpeace, if that helps clarify. Direct sabotage vs. grassroots politicking.
And is it still going on? I'm a little excited.

Date: 2006-07-04 11:32 pm (UTC)I went to see An Inconvenient Truth tonight, which is as aggrandizing of Al Gore as it is ... well ... frightening.
It's a good thing you live in Canada,

Date: 2006-07-06 12:39 am (UTC)I adore this gem on Bookchin's Institute for Social Ecology:
"The “scholarship” that comes out of the Institute for Social Ecology can be typically found in fringe publications like Synthesis/Regeneration, Third World Resurgence, Wild Earth, Z Magazine, or the Earth First! Journal. While most people have never read these periodicals, they are followed closely by those who frequent the underbelly of the extreme anarchist, animal-rights, and environmental movements"
