Time for a no-confidence vote!

The only problem is that a) I didn't have any confidence in this government to begin with, and b) it's not like anyone else in Parliament has the guts to stand up to the chimPrime Minister.

Today on CBC, there was a Conservative MP proposing that Canadians being (slowly) evacuated from Lebanon should foot the bill for their own rescue. Just like in the U.S. (Sorry for the link to WingNut Daily.) His claim was that the government can't afford it (bollocks) and that since most of these people hold dual citizenship, they should have asked the Lebanese government for help first (*blank stare*). Meanwhile, Harper is off to Cyprus to "help" with the evacuation efforts, taking up a valuable space on the plane. I hope some of the evacuees give him a stern talking-to. At the very least.

I honestly don't know where to start.

I'm sorry; if we had to have a mass evacuation of Snowbirds because of a hurricane in Florida, would anyone dare to have this discussion?

The government seems to have forgotten the entire reason we have governments and nations at all.*

I mean, I had no confidence in them to begin with, either, and I have less now.


* Yes, I'm aware that some folks find the entire concept of nations to be wrongheaded. While we can certainly debate that, for the current purposes can we please agree that we have a nation-state, and until the nation-state is overthown and the internationalist, border-free anarcho-syndicalist wossname organizes itself, the government should remember that it exists to serve the citizenry, rather than the other way round?

Hohoho! You said "acts of genocide", which, if you recall from Rwanda 1994, is different from "genocide genocide". The former calls for mild alarm and public/international verbal reprimanding of the offending party, the latter calls for 'intervention', usually done when the worst of the damage has been done (again, in Rwanda's case, 'intervention' occured after the first 100 days, which was when the bulk of the people died).

I didn't make up the rules, the international TGO community did...

Did you watch the whole pilot? The gaps for commercial breaks can make you think it's already over. Despite appearances, it's a half hour long and doesn't end on a cliff-hanger. It just gets better and better with each segment.

Depends on what kind of snowbirds. If what you mean by 'snowbirds' are birds who are moneyed enough to spend the long great northern winters in teh great white south with nazi war criminals and other inhumane people still engaging in inhumane acts by proxy, then I bet you 2 canadian dollars that they'll have some kind of lobby in the u.s. house + senate that will facilitate their return to the great white north.

On the other hand, if what you mean by 'snowbirds' are white-feathered (ergo: 'snow') little fellas native to the southern u.s. region, well, we have a good example of that in the history textbooks: Katrina.
