First up, we have this must-read: What Right-Wingers See When They Read the New York Times. It's very helpful, especially for Canuckistanis like me who really do not understand what Americans mean when they talk about the liberal, biased media. The Klimt part is the best.

Next, you will be pleased to find out that Feministe has located a solution for The NiceGuy. Check out Big Bad Chinese Mama. Besides being my hero of the day, BBCM has made some articles of clothing that I covet.*

(Hat tip for both links: Feministe.)

If you needed another reason to mock Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey, she's got another post up about how she's still better than everyone else. In this post, she points out that she's particularly better than fat people and poor people. Predictably, members of the lower classes arrive to take issue with this statement, and predictably, Ubermensch RFJason leaps to her defense with:
We know, because we have reasoned it, that a person's reward is the sum of his intelligence, application, perseverence, and cunning. It is darwinism at its finest. We are fit, able-bodied and able-minded, and we are not afraid to use our ability, and to advertise ourselves as such.
For good measure, he inexplicably reminds us about 9-11 OMG NEVAR FORGET!!!one!! with this bizarre comment:
It should be apparent by now that Jacq, nor anyone else of her quality is going to bow down to those would condemn her. You know who else condemns and attacks you when you don't bow down? Dictators. Megalomaniacs. Psycho nutjobs. Yeah ... let's go have relationships with those types of personalities! While we're add it, why don't we up the fun-quotient by watching 9/11 tapes?
Love!

(The best comment is here, and you have to read it in its entirety.)

Finally, I promised that I wouldn't mention it again, so just hop back to the post that dare not speak its name that I made the other day, and read the edit. You won't be disappointed.

* Speaking of my poor abused VISA card, squee! and drool!
EDIT: This is intriguing. I have no idea what some of these pictures are supposed to be.

Bit of a sod that RFJ is on my flist - poor chap is setting himself up as a sitting duck by hanging around with Jackie Mackie Poopie Pants or whatever she's called.

Hey, I thought of you the other day; there was a huge cat came into my house, half tabby, half white, with enormous paws and a strangely squeaky miaow. Would that I could spirit him away with my Lilith when I move next month. I saw him and thought immediately of your Marinetti.

JMPP = a budding Ann Coulter?

NYT from rightwing nuts' POV is really OMG. Their OP, IMHO, is also silly. They need to GTPO and STFU and BOO with Margaret Thatcher's wawa, revirginized by Ayatollah with SBTC, and in the vicinity of JonBenet Ramsey.

Has anyone in the comments, since you seem to have soul immunity and can't get yours sucked out, mentioned that class is something that isn't always chosen or indicative of much?

Thanks, my idiot quotient has been met for the day :)

I love how Miss Thing uses Bildungsroman incorrectly as the title of her journal. She is so educated...

What does she say to the working poor who hold down two jobs and still can't get ahead?

There's a Tom Toles cartoon on that (not linked) from the early 90s. It shows one businessman telling another, "Sure I make a lot of money, but I work really hard for it." There's a cleaning lady scrubbing the floor behind him thinking, "Wow. I'm working two jobs and I still can't make ends meet. He must be working really, really, really hard!"

She would say, as Megan McArdle did in her "Live from the WTC incarnation" (resplendent with a pink background and WWII poster illustrations), that most of the working poor are barely on the clock full-time, and that many of the poor aren't employed at all. This isn't because of the nature of the job market, or unequal access to education and contacts, or even the fact that it is impossible under capitalism for every worker to secure as much paid employment as he or she needs, but is due to their own grievous moral failure. Well, McArdle is hip to the difficulties of extricating oneself from social pressure by other poor people, which is a start, in the sense that walking upstairs brings you closer to the moon, but that's the general idea.

Riiiight. That's why my student's dad worked 60+ hours a week at a pizza parlor until he was fired because supposedly "customers complained about him" when no such thing occurred, there had just been a change of management and the new management didn't like how he had contracted tuberculosis and had been out one week.

The conditions that inspired "The Jungle" still exist for immigrants.

(I'm yelling at her, not you. ;))

So she thinks she understands the causes of poverty because she once slummed? I don't think so. While writing Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier, George Orwell spent a lot of time with tramps passing as one of them, but he understood - and pointed out - that it's quite different from infiltrating a working class family and finding out what their lives are really like, which he said would probably be "next door to impossible." Ms. Libertarian's poverty tourism and poorly chosen boyfriends are hardly representative or a sound basis for macroeconomic analysis.

Point. I had given her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was simply deluded, but lying is another possibility.

I guess they are linking to (the first?) yahoo image results, no wonder they had to take it down.

It took too much bandwidth, I'm sure that it won't work anymore, unless it can work entirely from cache, which would be awesome, and then you would have to save it and send it to us. :]
