Killing time before work finishes
Sep. 28th, 2006 04:08 pmOh, nice. Someone thoughtfully made an iTunes Plot Generator. And here I was afraid that I'd get writer's block again.
My playlist isn't terribly diverse, as the only music I have at work is either a) stuff that the previous owner of this computer downloaded, and most of it sucks, b) the Decemberists mixed CD that
human_loser gave me, and they're all pretty narrative songs so it'd be cheating, and c) the songs I downloaded a few months ago for my Saddest Music Ever playlist and a few random others. Let's go with option c).
Our story begins with: "Song of the Volga Boatmen," Paul Robeson
A Volga boatman. That was easy.
who is living in: "Company Store," Greg MacPherson
Nova Scotia. I'm sure there's a very good explanation. He went boating and got lost.
and spends time: "The Internationale," Billy Bragg
Fomenting socialist revolution.
while longing for: "Shenandoah," Paul Robeson
An entirely different body of water. Are we sensing a theme here?
In his troubled past, he: "Hung My Head," Johnny Cash
Killed a man in Reno just to watch him die. Accidentally killed a dude while playing around with borrowed firearms.
and since then, he has: "What's Left of the Flag," Flogging Molly
Been going around killing dudes on purpose.
leaving him conflicted over: "Hallelujah," Jeff Buckley
Sex.
On this fateful day, our hero: "Ta Deem Remix," Asian Dub Foundation
Procrastinates by listening to Bhangra.
which causes this conflict or risks this loss: "Blake's Jerusalem," Billy Bragg
Inability to reconcile the modern world with bizarre and possibly theocratic utopian visions. (Eh. This plot wasn't working badly up until the last two songs.)
He resolves to: "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key," Billy Bragg
Lead young women astray with his songs.
but fails to: "Grapefruit Moon," Tom Waits
Get over his ex.
intensifying their conflict by: "The World Turned Upside Down," Billy Bragg
Joining the squatters' movement.
Pressures build until: "Innocent When You Dream," Tom Waits
He cruelly ditches his current fling.
At this crucial point, he chooses: "These Days," Nico
To just give up. On everything.
and the story resolves with: "Going Home," Paul Robeson
Rocks fall. Everyone dies.
Consider this an early contribution to Free Idea Friday.
