Okay, fellow Hogtowners: Who here can link me to a reasonable guide to the candidates running in the municipal elections? Normally I'd be up on this stuff myself, but my personal life has been such a mess lately that I haven't been following the race at all. I mean, I know that [livejournal.com profile] himy is running in my ward (that'd be a shameless plug, by the way), and I know that I want to see Pitfield's campaign go down in flames, but do I know from school trustees? No. So who wants to hook me up with some info and/or discuss who you're voting for, if you're voting.

I'm in Ward 19, should you come across ward-specific guides.

I'm a Bad Citizen too.

I was gonna ask you where this election had come from.

Here's some stuff:

Official (therefore boring and bogus) City of Toronto Elections website.

Wikipedia on the 2006 Toronto elections (WTF??? How can you have an encyclopedia entry on something that hasn't happened yet?), and stuff on Ward 19.

And, probably better reading, Eye's Elections Blog.

Monday, Nov. 6, there's an Election Thing at Revival. Wanna go?

The Now always has a reliable guide that's unabashedly pro-NDP.

I don't know. Usually it's closer to the election date. You can call them up and ask them ;]

I forgot that the legendary Beguiling was in Toronto. Is that the comics shop you go to?

Hopefully not like the comics shop guy in The Simpsons.

Off topic, once more: Do you still have that link to the potty-mouthed old guy ranting about the cost of a cup of coffee at Starbucks?

"I forget—which one's left-wing and which one's right-wing?"

Oh . my . fucking . god.

That would be: Stick it up your ass, fuckin' Starbucks. Fuckin' right!

Many thanks, I added it to a comment in my gentrification post. Did you see the Onion article I tacked onto it?

i'd like such info as well! i haven't been giving the election much thought because it's making my brain hurt. i'm definitely voting miller, but as for my councillor? i don't know. i'm torn between joe mihevc & john sewell. i need to find out more about both campaigns, but me? i'm lazy.

& school trustees? i have zero idea as well. i usually just refrain from voting for them.

I think I'm not voting for Miller. I know he's mostly tied up by the lack of funds, but he's appealing to the right-of-centre a little too much for my pleasure. The shit about megabins and stuff, polluting our visual environment for just a few tens of millions of dollars on a 7-billion dollar budget is pretty shitty. I know they backed down, but it's the fact that it took so long that worries me. I don't demand that Miller lead the Workers' Vanguard, but he could still show some teeth.

There's a homeless guy that's run a few times and who's running again, if I can remember his name I'll vote for him.

fuck this layton icon. appropriate for this post, but now I need a new leftie icon.

Be happy that you don't live in Vancouver; there everyone votes for everyone else's councillors, and since the wealthier fuckers in the west side vote in higher proportion, they are pretty good at ensuring that the council doesn't stray too far left. In spite of that though, it seems that the left is not too bad off. But imagine if people were left to vote for their own councillors...

In a way, it's form of proportional representation I guess? Is there some tabber to refresh my memory on this?
