It's done! And mostly how I envisioned it. (I wish I could play with the fonts—I had to change the title* so that it wouldn't overlap with the image—and colours a bit more.) But otherwise, I'm pretty happy with it.) It's more chipper than I generally feel, but I was never too happy with the brown one.

I vow to stop fiddling with it for awhile. No one really looks at it except me. But hey, I have to look at it every day. So there.

* Okay, it was an obscure reference, albeit not as obscure as "The Christie Pits Memorial Softball Team," which no one got (it's a reference to the 1933 Christie Pits Riots). "Don't despair; the whales have survived" is a line from Neville Shute's On the Beach, which I must have read over a decade ago, and it still resonates with me as one of the darkest punchlines in any novel, ever.

Cool. It's very different from your previous one which was earth-toney. I like it.

I got the "Christie Pits" reference, but only because I looked it up.

I would have picked-up on the Christie Pits reference if I'd noticed it, damn it!

I really like the new layout. The colors are great.

Also, look at all the tags! :-O

I also got the Christie Pits reference. The judge at my trial used it as a precedence to convict us of participating in a riot. I couldn't help but feel like I was in good company.

I would definitely get a copy of the transcripts if I thought it was free, but I'd be surprised if they were. I'd probably try to get anything the cops or RCMP have on me through freedom of informatrion before I got the transcripts though.

Can you find it using this?

Ont the Beach appears out of print *sigh* I needed a distraction. I haven't seen the movie in years, or if I've seen it in the last two I cannot remember it. Maybe the remake stunk and I hadn't seen the original. Must put it on my queue. I did an atomic holocaust week once just because I wanted to get far more depressed about how helpless man is against great powers with money. The best film turned out to be the animated 'When The Wind Blows'. And now I know about the Christie Pits riots as well. LJ encourages me to be a more informed person. I should be writing up a one page blurb on Jean Toomer (??!) for class Friday. He just wasn't _that_ exciting to write about.

I love the new layout. It's fun! Funky! I look at it relatively often, because I open up journal pages when trying to catch up over the weekend. So it won't be completely for naught.

Here in Louisville, "Grotesque Burlesque" is the name of a goth burlesque act with Wiemar touches.

That said, I like the new look a lot. I think it's much cooler than your old one. I'm surprised you didn't go with a pink color scheme for the side bar to go with your foliage (thank you, incidentally). The only suggestion I would make is altering the doodle part so that none of it gets cut off at the bottom. Other than that, it's awesome and flawless.

This may mean the "action halo" will have to "hug the coast" below the top of your head. Some of those airborne symbols could float off to the left of your head as well.

Does Marinetti actually have the same sized head as you?

I could also just put a line there.

No, don't do that: I like the top blending in.

The Grotesque Burlesque sounds fun. Are they good?

I've only seen them do one piece, but they were pretty good. They were in made up in white face paint like silent film actors. They lip synced to an old ribald '20s song about a ménages à trois sung in English with a German accent. Their prop was a big, billowing bed sheet that they kept popping in and out of to sing their lines. I liked it.

Looks good. I guess there is no way to prevent your action halo from getting snipped. Now drop another red star or two to the left of your head and you are done. ... That or move the pink skull & cross bones there to be closer to the big pink flower, but you need something floating to the left of your head.

Then one final experiment? Try dropping the action halos and arranging the objects to that it's not so obvious where the masthead graphic ends and the rest of the page begins. Same general idea, but slightly more understated.

I don't dislike them, but I was thinking of your space constraints and how to best blend the masthead graphic into the page. ... Shrinking everything 90% might achieve this without losing anything.
