Another geeky coming-out moment

I have now watched episodes 1 to 6 of Heroes. And it's as good as you all say it is. I'm glad for the hiatus, because now I can get caught up.*

I've also been watching Da Vinci's Inquest, which is old and uneven but also good. What does it say about Canadian culture that we'd take the mayor of Vancouver and make him the hero of a Law & Order-type TV show? It's giving me a warm glow of fuzzy nationalism. Also, Kaylee from Firefly is in it.

* I needed a new show to get obsessed with because I gave up on Veronica Mars after the third episode of season three. You're all right about that one; it went from awesome to teh suxx0rs surprisingly quickly.

Oh, and Oz was just released on DVD here, so that needs buying and watching in order, as I missed the beginning. Our local street mag started it's review with the following gem:

"Oz was the first drama brought to us from those fine folks at HBO and it didn't just kick the door in for modern drama, it nutted the fucker and came back for the remains."

my coworker has been bugging me to watch that. He generally has terrible taste, so I've stayed away, but it seems very x-men-ish which I like.

Have you done Battlestar Galactica or Deadwood yet?

It's like a very realistic X-Men.

I saw Season 1 of BSG, which puts me terribly behind. I've been meaning to rent the DVDs of Season 2, but I usually don't have enough time to watch that many episodes in a seven-day period. Same with Deadwood; I've only seen the first episode because the rest wouldn't @#$% download.

We just finished watching Twin Peaks again. That was fun. I hadn't watched it since it was first on.

Haven't seen Heroes yet, but two things:

1. Yeah, I'll cop to the fact that Veronica Mars hasn't ever topped its Season 1 (but really how could you?), and that Season 2 got RIDICULOUS near the end, but I thought Season 3 was a step back in the right direction. But at any rate i don't think VM has ever actually SUCKED, it's just gotten kinda meh here and there, and there's always been a few good lines or some awesome acting to keep me coming back, and while that's a mere taste of its former glory, I'll take that over American Idol any fucking day.

2. Looking for addictive TV? Battlestar Galctica. I'm fucking serious. Nearly every episode is a frickin nailbiter. AWESOME.

1. I loved Season 1, thought Season 2 was entertaining, and was willing to give Season 3 a shot even though everyone was trashing it. But seriously? I don't recognize any of the characters.

2. Yes, I know. But I need either a week off or someone to loan me the DVDs for longer than 7 days.

I've really hated Heroes up until last week. I don't know what happened, if they hired some new writers or what, because last week's episode and the one that aired yesterday were absolutely great. So if you're liking it so far, you're going to love it when you get caught up, because it gets much better.

Oh, and I agree with human_loser: Battlestar is amazing. Last week's episode was maybe the single best hour of television I've seen EVER. They actually addressed class struggle and unionism in a positive way.

I heard good things about the Heroes, but I think I'll wait for the fifth or sixth season before gaggling over it. There is only so much pop culture I can take before I feel dizzy and start slurring my sentences and making up words like "gaggling." (D'oh!)

Da Vinci's Inquest? Gag.

I tried watching that at one point...the acting was just god awful.

The Venn Diagram amused me.

Like I said, it's uneven. The episode we watched last night sucked. The first one (which is a three-parter) was amazing.

But I mostly like it for the reasons I liked This Is Wonderland; it's a fairly accurate depiction of the seedy underside of Canadian cities. Though I think This Is Wonderland did a better job from what I've seen, but it came along much later when TV had gotten more sophisticated in general.
