That's how you wish someone happy May 8 in Russian in case you were dying to know.

I'm going to smash the patriarchy by teaching people Russian for international women's day greetings. It's, um, a rather passive form of smashing. You might say I'm going to lightly abrade the patriarchy. Hopefully it will not feel too much like petting. I'll make sure and yell "bad patriarchy!" while I'm doing it.

It's "Happy March 8." Well, overliterally it's "I congratulate you [with is the preposition here, but it's used as on-the-occasion-of] March 8th." And if you want to know how to pronounce it, insofar as that can be done on here, it's, hm, with uh as a schwa sound "puhzdravlYAHyu teebYAH svahsMOM MARtuh." I don't think they use the actual phrase international women's day in wishing someone a happy etc.

Last night I went to a spa night, where the proceeds went to a feminist group. Yeah, yeah, I know it's bourgie -- but spa for social change was just the right thing last night. Tonight, I might attend a women's potluck/storytelling party. And Friday, I'm going to a pre-loved sex toy party! Not officially an IWD event, but I say that being empowered in our sexuality and OWNING our orgasms will do a lot to smash the patriarchy.

Oh, and I wrote this post for Blog This. And a really great column for Capital Xtra that will be published next week.
