Hah! I just got told off by the ARA Network mailing list for excessive snark. (My crime? Sending an e-mail that read: "Please unsubscribe me. Bored now." The context? A lengthy flame war on whether or not it's appropriate to say "douchebag" on said mailing list. I feel vindicated.)

Anyway, here are some pictures of a kitten and a giant Scrabble board. Not, alas, in the same frame.

The Scrabble board in question. It was one of the two interesting things at the first Pedestrian Sunday, the other being free BBQ corn.

It isn't great, but I'd do NIB on the other double-letter, which would also let me use it for NO going across, assuming the judge will allow BI.

That's the kind of scrabble playing which I love, and makes my friends fear me and refuse to play with me anymore :(

I would allow BI, it's totally a stand alone word these days. Not sure is SOWPODS agrees, tho'

I'm not bad. For some reason my strategy sucks when I'm playing more than one person. Also, I totally make up words.

There is a Scrabble club in your area; there are a number in your (more general) neck of the woods, and some very good players about. The one closest (it was a very quick, and not very thorough web search) seems to be at the Southern Cross Club (I hope that means something to you, because it means nothing to me) :).

Come and play with us if you ever come to our neck of the woods.

Yup it means something to me. I know where it is, and one of the local knitting groups meets there. But I never make it to their meetings, either.

All my quality procrastination gets used up on the interwebs, cos I can do that while I'm theoretically working on thesis. Then I have a market stall, knitting, and socializing on weekends... it all adds up to probably not making the effort try to improve my scrabble playing.

Thanks for your efforts to convince me otherwise. Maybe one day.

In the meantime, on dark_christian, they're bemoaning the fact that there will probably, shortly, be a massive fundie-christian armed militia wreaking violence in America. I suggested we start a Left-wing militia, and I think I'm about to get eaten alive for it.

Am I going too far in my suggestion, do you think?

I used to be pro- anarchists and leftists arming themselves and such, but having been through several purges and sectarian squabbles, not to mention those parties where everyone is stoned and really clumsy, I'm less sure that it's a good idea to give certain people guns.

I'm all for learning how to shoot guns, mind you. Just in case.

Ah yes, the ARA email list. I'm sure it hasn't changed much. A lengthy flamewar over the appropriateness of "douchebag" sounds about right.

I remember some lengthy arguments about the appropriateness of arms training, too.

The best thing is that it started out as a discussion of whether it's appropriate for an all-white group (which ARA is, at least here) to interfere in an event organized by a black nationalist group. The discussion then devolved into whether it's okay for said white people to appropriate vocabulary used by the Black Panthers to criticize nationalist opponents. From there it got into the "douchebag" thing.

And I can't even delete those e-mails, because they're a total trainwreck and it's funny. So I unsubscribed. But some people have problems with that too, I guess.

There are decent people in the Network. But for some reason, the assholes are more talkative, and I'm well rid of them.

What a cute and gorgeous cat. Just the right amount of fluffiness in the fur that makes you want to cuddle, yet cats are notoriously averse to being cuddled or held for more than 3 seconds. Then it's squirm and wriggle time.
