I saw Ali Abunimah kick his ass in a debate once, but I have a lot of respect for Finkelstein too. It's bullshit that he's being denied tenure, but I can't say it's surprising.
Ali Abumimah could kick anyone's ass in debate :-)
Have I mentioned my fangirl crush on Ali Abunimah? I met him at a party a year ago Christmas (at Kathy Kelly's house- am I name-dropping enough?) and didn't know at the time exactly how high-profile he was. He hugged me goodbye- he said handshakes were too formal- and I swooned.
Oh, I'm with you. I had a crush on him just from listening to him on the radio, but then when I saw him in person, well, yeah. He's sweet and fierce, a really awesome combination.
Maybe he's just lucky that Dershowitz didn't consider him a "ticking bomb" senario and convince DePaul to send him to Gitmo. Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't speak so soon.
he is cute, isn't he? I saw him last year and that really surprised me; i didn't expect him to be cute. Him and Ali Abunimah; fierce and sweet and cute!
Hats off for another teh awesome Sabotabby userpic, and three cheers for the bard of Barking, Mr. Billy Bragg. Saw hime (again) during his most recent tour, and feel incredibly lucky to have done so, as it was "classic Billy", AKA just him, solo, with a guitar and the truth. Who else can take you from righteous indignation to the sweetest, most hubly human love song, to humor and back again (and sometimes all in a single song)?
I was so happy that Billy Bragg didn't have a band when I saw him. I like some of his stuff with Wilco, but he played mostly old songs and mostly songs that I loved, at that.
Dershowitz is still pissed off that Finklestein accurately and effectively compared him to Adolf Eichman and a vacuum cleaner salesman in the same sentence. Something about the banality of evil.
I've seen that creepy little vacuum cleaner salesman around here.

Please tell me there's a link to that somewhere. Because it's so true.
I don't have a link, just the quote from an interview. I had cut and pasted it and I found it this morning.
"If he is, then he is a representation of Hannah Arendt's banality of evil. You want to believe that there is something profound in evil. But evil has no depth. Look at Adolf Eichman; he could have been a vacuum salesman. Yes Dershowitz is evil, a vacuum salesman at Harvard."

He was asked if Alan D was evil?
