Compare the media coverage of the whatever-it-is anniversary of Princess Diana's death with the media coverage of the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Just sayin'.

P.S. Many of Katrina's victims are still living in trailers and not getting the help they need. You can help.

Mother Teresa died like a week later, not the same day.

And no, she didn't. They're both overrated, but whereas in my view Di was just spoiled and rich, MT actively imposed her religious delusions on the sick and dying, largely to their detriment. I have little sympathy or respect for her.

But of course you won't here about that from the media either.

Mother Teresa. And, as far as I can tell, she did a lot more good for this world than Princess Di did.

Hahahaha! What?

Sabotabby, I am deleting this comment before I say things to your friends that I might regret later. (Frankly, I'm in no mood for people being rude to me.)

Not only are you right - I was really struck by just how *damned* right you were and I'd like to point this out my lj readers as well(especially with the link). I'll note where it all came from but would it be ok with you?

Well I don't know what the media is like up there or what you watch, but there was frankly a lot of Katrina coverage last week. Yes the Di shit is completely over-the-top today—particularly on MSNBC, which re-broadcast the entire funeral for some reason—but frankly the mainstream cable networks were covering Katrina so much this week I found it a bit tedious, especially coming as it did after Gonzo had resigned (which seemed to have been lost in the shuffle between Katrina and Larry Craig). I mean one can argue the quality of the Katrina coverage, but it's been out there all week. I'm not sure how much more you'd like. Honestly I'd like to see the MSM covering things we haven't heard about yet rather than reminding us of the trailers for the Nth time. NPR did a lot of good Katrina coverage at any rate. Again, possibly too much. But it was good.

Maybe it's just the particular media I consume, but I've heard nary a peep about Di (did see a picture and a brief blurb somewhere, but it was pretty much a blip on the radar), and plenty of stuff about the Katrina aftermath.

What frustrates me is how little and how seemingly ineffectual the efforts are to get people to do something. Anyone can read the paper and speak eloquently and accurately about the ways the world is fucked up. But there needs to be a leadership breaking down a series of doable steps for the rest of us to constructively involve ourselves.

I mean, I should talk; it's not like I'm doing it. But right this second, I'm more interested in being someone else's indian in these types of things. Just looking for a good chief.

Of course you live in the Commonwealth. E2 is your head of state after all.

The bitch is still deid. Pity us poor folks in Scotland who had to avoid
buying a paper today. No mention of Katrina except the Spike Lee film came out on DVD in the UK this week.

Because you still are in the Commonwealth
and Lizzy is _still_ your queen. Sorry to ruin your day.
I've watched 'Cambridge Spies' to forget all about
this Died crap on television. I've reckoned I could never be a spy.
Can you imagine pretending to be a fascist?

Nae Liz the Twa, nae Lilibet the One
Nae Liz will ever dae
We'll mak' oor land Republican
In a Scottish breakaway

Noo Scotland hasnae got a King
And she hasnae got a Queen
How can ye hae the Second Liz
When the First yin's never been

And oooh! My friend saw Cambridge Spies and said I'd love it. Is he right?

This is one of those movies I wouldn't call enjoyable
because of the subject matter, but it definitely is very good.
In fact it was so heavy, we had to watch something 'light
hearted' and 'stupid' afterwards, so I put on 'Blades of Glory'.

I'm so sick of hearing things about Diana, It seems like every other week something has happened. Can't they just give it a rest, she's been dead for years, they had a funeral etc. then, even built her a fountain or something so why do they have to drag it up again and again. I can't see why any one would care, everything's just been blown out of proportion.
