I don't really eat there anyway because there are all of two things on the menu that I can eat. But we used to go there for beer sometimes when I worked near there. They have a nice patio.

Queen West drives me insane. There's this furniture store at Bathurst with a mannequin in the window, sprawled out, face down on the ground... in front of the fashionable couch. S/He has a little speech bubble above her head that says "It doesn't have to be this way." Every time I walk by it to go to Gandhi, I want to throw a brick through the window.

This sort of thing seems so commonplace these days, at least in the pop culture I'm exposed to. Very common on my two college campuses. "Cool racism." We're so ignorant about it. (I say "we" because even though I don't necessarily say this sort of thing or celebrate it, I'm still part of it just by being here.) It's just an accepted part of the culture, as if this racism is so de-personalized and so general it doesn't affect actual people. Blech.

It's always a line for me, because I often appreciate really inappropriate humor (the title of this post comes from a Wonder Showzen segment called "Celebrate Our Differences"—very offensive, very fucking funny). But this crosses that line.

That entire menu including the concept and the title is one giant bowl of skanky race issues. I mean they even use the won ton font in one place, and the food doesn't even seem appetizing by the titles.

The food is mediocre. I liked their Shanghai Noodles, even though the noodles they use for that are not Shanghai noodles, but I got sick of it, and I wasn't going to pay $7.25 for an Yves Veggie Burger. Their steaks are overpriced, tiny, and if my ex is to be believed, not very good either.

I'm a vegetarian, and poutine sounds pretty gross. I've never had it. I'm not a nationalist, after all! It may be unforgivably Anglo of me, but I feel that the only appropriate toppings for fries are ketchup and malt vinegar.

What's "Ghetto chicken?" Is it, like, a prostitute imported from Queens? Sorry, not funny joke. Back when Indonesia occupied East Timor, many Timorese women decided that East Timor was not a pleasant place to be living. So they move to places like Java, and some end up being sex workers, and the term used for such sex workers was "country/village chicken". As opposed to local sex workers, which are "broiler chicken".
