Name that film!
Jun. 18th, 2008 08:46 pmWhen I was in high school, one of my teachers showed us this amazing documentary about how the media (and specifically CNN) portrayed the first Gulf War. It had a lot of cuts from news graphics to video games. I think it might have been banned in Canada; I remember him saying something about how he'd gotten it elsewhere.
Anyway, I can't remember what it was called. I'd like to watch it again, but now that the Gulf War is ancient history what happened to old people, the internets are of no help to me. Can anyone remember seeing a movie like this?
(I just watched Outfoxed, which is what made me think of it.)

I'll ask around though, in my pool of teacher friends.
Can you go find the high school teacher in question and just ask? That might be easiest.

True, if he remembers what it was called! I should probably contact him anyway.

I was just a coupla years older 'n YOU and I remember sitting on the couch watching Wolf Blitzer and Co. reporting from the hotel in Baghdad w/ the bombs dropping all around them. (Everyone the next day was asking "Do you really believe that guy's real name is WOLF BLITZER?" Nobody had heard of him before.)
But I don't remember the documentary you speak of.

Date: 2008-06-20 08:38 am (UTC)I complained about it and people told me that it was "cool" we could watch the war live on tv!
I felt like I did after reading "Ender's War".
the weirdest thing was talking to guys I knew who were in the marine corps and army over there and finding out how much it was really like playing video games-how much ammo was wasted by our troops shooting at one another when both camps were just out of range, and realizing when both camps called for ammo-oops we just wasted X-thousands of dollars shooting at each other.
(and they werent worried about shooting their fellow soldiers-they were worried they might accidentally hit a camel and have to pay for it, like shooting a bystander in a video game:-/
Apparently, camels are expensive.
