The Feds spent 6 years destroying Steven J. Hatfill in public while apparently overlooking his co-worker. This cost taxpayers $2.825 million plus a 20-year annual annuity of $150,000 to settle Hatfill's lawsuit. That's some good policing there.

I'm really pissed Ivin is dead, because the case will probably be marked solved without full investigation. As you point out, this will be feed conspiracy nuts while obscuring the actual failures and politics involved.

I'm willing to bet the six million dollar error with Hatfill is why the Feds didn't take Ivins into custody after he violated a restraining order on tape and expressed suicidal thoughts. If the reporting is true Ivins was a known psycho before 9/11, yet apparently he was allowed to help the investigation.

Even if Ivins wasn't guilty, the Fort Detrick biodefense laboratory clearly had major problems and the likely "conspiracy" is likely ass covering. After the last eight years I never attribute to evil schemes what can be explained by arrogance and incompetence.

Meanwhile, in October 2001 John McCain went on David Letterman, accused Iraq of sending the anthrax with no real evidence and said this is why the "second phase" of war should be invading Iraq. I wish this was getting more mentions outside the lefty press. Of course, if you look at posts about it the reaction quickly moves from "John McCain was making stuff up to attack Iraq war really early." to "The Invasion Plot killed Ivins."

Yep. The guy apparently responsible was in on it and killed himself before they could arrest him.
