What [livejournal.com profile] zingerella said.

Nice to see the Liberals making the same mistake that the Democrats frequently make, which is to find a candidate who most resembles a Lite version of the leading Conservatives/Republicans. That is entirely stupid and Obama won by not being that. Ignatieff would have had us in Iraq and stacking up naked prisoners in Gitmo—don't forget it. He's not particularly less crazy than Harper, just crazy in a slightly better-worded, wanna-be intellectual sort of way.

Also, check out the (now-slightly outdated) background on the situation that [livejournal.com profile] caprinus posted.

Appropo icon.

So, the liberals like to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory?

I'm still trying to make sense of what's going on up there. You Canuckistanis are wacky! I even tried to make sense of it through the Daily Show.

I'll go read your friends post. Maybe it will help...

Sigh, we may well get a coalition, but it could be Liberal-Conservative :P

I'm not thrilled about Iggy either... I'd still rather have him than Harper, and at least now Liberals can start thinking about who they *really really* want as their leader down the road. Cause the choices have been so uninspiring.

Dion, despite a few fatal flaws in a quest to be prime minister, was at least likable. Iggy, on the other hand, is a pro-Iraq-war who couldn't even be bothered to set foot in Canada until he was offered short-term prospects of becoming prime minister.

The only way a coalition with him at the helm would be even vaguely progressive would be if the NDP negotiated a much better deal than the last coalition arrangement, including Jack as deputy PM.

Wow, maybe politics are even more fucked up in Canada than they are down here. That should be interesting for me to get used to if I move up there next fall.

The liberals are a party of big business with no sense of principle beyond a love of power. Still, I consider them an improvement over the conservatives, who have basically shown themselves to be fascists in democratic clothing. At least the liberals can be convinced to do the right thing if they think it'll help them win them the next election.

I'm no great fan of Ignatieff, but he's hardly worse than the rest of his party (many of whom would have also loved to go into Iraq at the time).

I had to read something by Ignatieff in college, except I stopped midway through, because he was pissing me off.
