When I heard that John Williams had a composition in the ceremony, I was wondering if it was Cheney's themesong, aka the Imperial March ;). But alas it was some reworking of "'Tis a Gift to Be Simple" (albeit with Yo Yo Ma involved).
Vir replies, "I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this. Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

there are days the parallels between b5 and the bush administration scare me.
My image is he steps through the doorway only to find himself emerging in Sadr City. He stops, rubs his eyes a bit, looks around confused trying to figure out what's going on. Then he turns around to go back inside only to find that the door looks unfamiliar and is very locked.
It's only when the crowd starts forming that he realizes he has no pants on.
I totally envisioned that as the wheeled him out the doors. I thought aloud "hey wouldn't it be funny is Cheney's chauffeur lost her grip on him, and the wheelchair went bouncing down the steps, and he flew off the end of the podium and crash landed into the marines below?". But I thought better of it. Poor marines would be crushed by the sheer evil that is Dick.
I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I'd look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this.
There was a bit in the jerky streaming I saw today where Obama and Bush were walking down the stairs together and I shouted "Put the cuffs on him! Slap the cuffs on Bush". It would have been so cool if Obama had arrested Bush on the spot.
No. I'm not sad that his head didn't go out atop a pike carried by a mob.
I'm a little sad that he didn't leave in handcuffs, escorted by US marshals. But I've got a wee glimmer of hope that that can be handled sometime in the future.
I want to see him punished, but I desperately want it to be by law, after due process and all that. Extra-careful due process, so that it can be made clear to all but the nuttiest of wingnuts that it's punishment for actual wrongs, not mere revenge or pettiness by "the other party". So that his punishment, whether it be death or imprisonment, can be recorded clearly as punishment by law, not muddied by being cast as martyrdom at the hands of a mob or randomness by a crazyperson.
So no, seeing his head on a pike yesterday would have brought me no satisfaction. I want to see him tried and convicted. Death at the hands of a mob may be one of the things he deserves, but it wouldn't serve my ends.
