For the love of all that is unholy, make women's t-shirts available at geek events. I'll add that this goes double for political events, which despite claims to inclusiveness, still suck in this regard (I'm glaring at you, labour unions and your XXL men's t-shirts).

I used to have a whole bunch of t-shirts that I bought because I liked what was on the t-shirt, but the shirts looked like tents on me. I scrapped all but a few, which I wear as nightshirts, because life is too short to own clothes that don't fit.

Rugby clubs are much more progressive! Our t-shirts come in sizes from Youth-S to XXXL and some of the other gear is specifically women's cut and sizing.

Speaking to you now from a geek event, and my company did bring the free shirts in women's sizes as well. But not all companies were as clueful.

Those shirts don't even fit men. I'm not sure who or what they fit.

The basic, cheap "men's" shirts fit a small subset of men wonderfully - skinny men with no fat and some muscle. I've seen the occasional women (usually quite tiny women with very small breasts and a somewhat butchy style) who they work well on too, provided the sizes are small enough.

But they certainly do look awful on most men as well.

I'm with you on this. I guess there is a rule that to be an active lefty you have to be unfashionable and look like a walking pop-up tent with a head sticking out on the top of it.

I blame Hippies.

Yes, yes, yes. This came up in another friend's journal just recently.

One thing that came up in that discussion, though, was that terminology can sometimes be problematic. I had made a comment there that I didn't like it when T-shirts cut for men (i.e. straight up and down) were referred to as "regular" or "unisex" T-shirts, while T-shirts cut for women (i.e. going in a bit at the waist, and stretching enough to accommodate breasts) were referred to by cutesy names like "babydoll".

But that comment was criticized by some women who like men's style better and thought that calling T-shirts cut to accommodate a bustline and waistline women's T-shirts was insulting to women who didn't have conventionally "feminine" figures. Trouble is, I'm really not sure what else to call them! "T-shirts designed to fit people who go out at the bust and in at the waist" seems like a bit of a mouthful...

I gotta give this to Mr. Snyder: that fucking Suckerpunch t-shirt I got at the Watchmen panel we went to is a great shirt that fits me perfectly. And it looks a bit awesome.

Now I kinda feel bad for killing him with a worm thing and intimating that he is a rookie.

Word, and this goes for band shirts as well. I mean, band shirts from bands that can only afford three t-shirt designs, at least make one of them for women, right?

I use stuff this book to alter dude shirts a lot:

But most of the time I'd rather just be able to buy something and put it on, you know?

and to have those fitted t-shirts available in plus sizes, please!! the "ladies" sizes they usually have too small for many of us who also want to look good and less tent-like.

Yay to that! I notice that the article talks about that as well.
