A post having little to do with Mexico
Aug. 6th, 2010 06:42 pmDear ladies and gentlemen of a fashionable mindset,
If a gentleman is wearing black sneakers while having a stroll about town, what is the appropriate colour of sock with which to pair said sneakers?
I do not know the answer to this, being neither a gentleman nor the sort to wear sneakers.

Date: 2010-08-07 12:01 am (UTC)Sneakers pretty much demand some kind of athletic sock, and so white is a fine choice. However, nothing looks dweebier than white socks in black shoes. However, AGAIN, black socks and sneakers ALSO looks kinda dweeby.
Ergo: black sneakers are a no. Unless they are some kind of canvas Converse deal, then see above re: white socks.
And if a gentleman is wearing black sneakers as a stand in for a dress shoe that is a no so big the world cannot contain it.

Date: 2010-08-07 01:21 am (UTC)It is ok, too, for the socks to match the pants -- but not the shoes. Basically, the intent is that the socks NOT stand out as a seperate line/layer/item -- they should blend unobtrusively between the pants and the shoes.
Now, if it isn't a gentleman... well, all bets are off.

*But I'm biased, since half of my wardrobe is black.

Date: 2010-08-09 10:36 pm (UTC)what are sneakers and what is a hipster?
I assume sneakers are trainers, in which case they are worn for convenience and comfort so it doesn't really matter. You can buy trainer socks, which don't show, so doesn't matter.
White is a severe no-no in Britain as it is what Essex men wear and also stockbrokers in Surrey pubs. Also pointless as just show dirt.
All my socks are purply striped ones.
