There actually aren't words, at this point. It's just pure visceral rage every time I turn on CBC or walk into a public space where there is a TV.

I totally feel you - the Telescreen in BigCo's breakroom is tuned to Olympic coverage. This morning was a relative respite as whatever cheap package they have meant lengthy real time coverage of curling. And it's harder to feel oppressed by curling, particular when they are using these high tech brooms with some sort of digital console built into the handle.

I heard this morning that the IOC was upset about the Ukrainian athletes wanting to wear black armbands for the 25 people who've died in protests in Kiev.

Because no bringing politics into the Olympics.

Wow. This makes me glad CBC podcasts are almost entirely embargoed. I'd 90% Olympic free, that 10% being mostly the Telescreen. And Were it not for the Telescreen.

Today someone on my FB posted about how vitamin C cures cancer and how you can balance your pH for better health.

Meanwhile I took Tylenol with caffeine for my migraine because I wanted to not have a migraine anymore.

I just do not understand about the Olympics. Why do people watch them? Well no, that's not it. I think sports are boring but most people think my interests are boring and that's how the world works. What I don't understand is why they're so compelling that the horror of Putin just isn't an issue or important. There was that article yesterday about Maria Alekhina and Nadezhda (?) Tolokhonnikova getting arrested (I guess temporarily) and how it was clear to everyone that this could just happen and there would be no significant protest because HOORAY SKATING. It makes me pretty sick.

The horror of Putin predates and will outlive the Olympics horror. And yet, athletes succeed and fail in their trials, much to our entertainment. I'm getting sick of people with foxconn-built cellphones and sweatshop-sewn clothes saying "oh Putin! don't watch the Olympics!" as if it would make a difference not watching them.

The nytimes.com page really did that to me today (said that lower down) -- "oh yeah people dead in Ukraine, whatever. But ***SKATING!***" It was like that old Media Studies example of the ad about starving children in Africa next to the ad for expensive jewelry, or whatever it was (I think from the New Yorker).

Everyone at work was very happy about some sports.

I do not care about the sports. It's not even a good distraction from the people who are dying, because it makes it inevitably harder to discuss, and thus do something about, the people dying.

I tried, but I can't see past all the underhandedness that goes into hosting them, or the lasting effects they have afterward. Houston tried to get them and funneled so much money into rennovations and wooing the committee, and we're *still* recovering financially--with no Olympics. Greece never recovered from their hosting financially. It baffles me how places go all nuts trying to land it, and overlook all the corruption and politicing.

I'm not quite at hatred, but I can see the skyline over here in Disdain City.
