This is not my holiday. Why am I doing so much running around? Shouldn't this be the point in the year where I get to kick back and be like, "hey, you guys have the stress in exchange for being the dominant culture?" No?

But it's Chanukkah - sure it's minor holiday that celebrates the Jewish version of the Taliban winning a military victory - which is then glossed over because no one liked the Maccabbees after they started killing each other, but it's still your holiday.

What a hilarious idea to suppose that I, in the Northern Hemisphere, get home early enough to light candles at sunset!

I was quite fond of it growing up, though. Latkes, presents, chocolate, and lighting things on fire. What's not to love?

My advice: stop running around (because it's not your holiday), and then invite yourself to the Christmas parties of your Christian friends (in the spirit of inter-faith dialogue).

Maybe you won't take my advice but I think you should, I'd definitely take advice that led me to free food and no extra effort.

It's primarily not my friends that are the issue, naturally. I've been invited to one pre-Christmas thing, zero Christmas things (I normally spend Christmas Eve with my mom and Christmas Day watching the Doctor Who Christmas Special or sometimes with friends) and one Yule thing—so far, no stress or obligation. It's more work/getting cookies ready for neighbours and people who are nice to me/the looming knowledge that my step-family will want to do a get-together that is causing the running around.
