The gym's closer, and showers will be an added incentive to go there. Also, 'tis not a bad thing in the middle of a heatwave, really. Still, I don't see why the apartment keeps breaking when my landlord is in Greece.
I'm not going to bother with the new Harry Potter until I can get a Canuckistani copy. I hate it when the publishers act as though people in the US will be confused by windscreens and and "-ised" and such.
Hmm, considering that they changed the title of one of Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, I wonder if I need to get Canuckistani or English versions of the first two volumes (I bought the last one in Nottingham).
Of course, when I was in England, I noticed that David Brin's The Kiln People had been renamed to The Kil'n People. Subtle, perhaps, but why?
Oh, I'll read it. I read all of the other ones...liked them all, except for the last one where Rowling's shift key got stuck down or something. I've just not felt the need to reread them, hence very little desire to own any of them. I'll get it out of the library like a good little proletariat.
I'm not sure what they did to HDM in 'Murrca...did they really 'Murrcanize Harry Potter? That's sad. Half of what I liked about it was all the little British schoolkids calling people gits.
First thing they did was change "Hary Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". You know, in case people CAN'T FUCKING LEARN NEW FANTASTIC NAMES. You wouldn't want that to happen in a fantasy novel now, WOULD YOU?? ! @
Have you seen the original version of Bedazzled in which Satan is scratching records, putting them back in their jackets and then resealing them in plastic? That's like what Jesus is doing. If you see a hippie wearing a tool belt, that's him.
Not because I don't like the series. Because I am not going to line up with a bunch of whining, screaming brats to read a book I can get out from the library or borrow from someone later.
I have nothing against them either, except that everyone won't shut up about them. Running with the library crowd only makes things worse. Eventually, I'll get around to reading them, post-hype.
You haven't read any of them? The first four are really good (although I can recommend better children's speculative fiction). I couldn't concentrate on reading the fifth one because of the resounding collective scream of the world's editors as they all realized simultaneously that the book could have been 200 pages shorter and 100% better, had they only gotten their red pens on it first.
Still?
