So I was having a look for Killercoke.org, which is an incredibly useful site. It details some of Coke's atrocities in Colombia, it has some pretty nice graphics that you can download and spread around, and it has a brand list that helps responsible people to avoid all Coke products around the world.

I accidentally typed .com instead of .org, and got this. Typed it wrong, oops! But I always want to know more about Coke and Colombia, so I clicked the link to Cokefacts.org.

Now, I'm not as educated about the interwebs as some, but I believe that .org means "non-commercial". Of course, the interwebs are the Wild West, so there's nothing to stop an evil multinational corporation from snapping up a .org, making a site that looks like it belongs to a grassroots activist group (a.k.a. astroturfing), and continuing to spread its propaganda and lies by any possible means. Some highlights from Cokefacts.org:

"Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partners will continue to do everything they can to keep employees safe."

...including hiring paramilitary groups to murder union activists who threaten company profits.

"In a country where violence against union members and anti-union discrimination by paramilitary forces has deterred all but approximately four percent of the labor force from unionizing, 31% of Coca-Cola FEMSA Colombia employees belong to unions."

Because management has nothing to do with the paramilitaries. Nothing at all.

The site also features touching articles about how Coke "betters the world", and flat-out denials of any wrongdoing.

In case you're curious, check out the copyright at the bottom of the page and the suggestion that you can help "spread the word" about how saintly Coca-Cola really is.

Everyone suddenly forgot how they killed people, too. Odwalla. Though that was from lysteria contimination and not death squads.

This is odd because I just yesterday vowed to stop drinking coke (for reasons other than politcal) not knowing any of this.

It's cranberry juice from now on for me, goddammit!!

Also, I remember getting to killercoke.com, which iswas done in the HTML-style killercoke.org iswas, only it's bought and paid for by the Coca Cola company, I remember thinking, "wow, this is so fucked up".

I hope the persons who made the spoof pro-coca cola site have trouble sleeping at night, knowing that they've just helped Coke lead a campaign of disinformation.

I bet they get unnecessary discount on purchasing domain names too cos they probably own half of the stocks in those domain-seller companies. Hell, they probably get it for free. If not, who's afraid of paying 1K$/year for a domain name if you're a trillionaire?
