Jew Christmas!

It's legitimately been a good few days!



Jew Christmas Eve with my mum. We saw the Mickalene Thomas show at the AGO, which was spectacular, and then saw Green Book, which, while not a great movie, was much better than I expected.

Today, my friend and I had planned to go take photos at the Sparkle Tunnel (which is exactly what it sounds like) but then she had the brilliant idea to hit Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and take pretentious goth photos. Which was good because tbh the Sparkle Tunnel was crowded and underwhelming and Mt. Pleasant never disappoints.

Then we figured out that neither of us had seen Aquaman yet, so we did that, and it was legitimately a good time. It was the first of the new DC movies that I've actually enjoyed, probably because someone remembered that superhero movies are supposed to be fun.

Figuring we'd do the Jew Christmas trifecta, we went for Chinese food and ran into some other friends also doing Jew Christmas and went for Vietnamese instead.

Now I am home and I should go to bed but there's a cat on me, so I will edit photos for a bit.

There's a sparkle tunnel this year at the auto dealership but they want you to wear 3D glasses to drive through it. I'm a little concerned about the thought of driving while wearing 3D glasses, tbh.

Oh, this is not like that. I can't even walk in 3D glasses! This is just a little one that you walk through.

I hate 3D glasses for movies where I'm sitting stil - that sounds like a recipe for a headache.

My first viewing of Man of Steel was with 3D glasses. I spent the first half-hour of the movie coping with the weirdness of it, and the first half-hour after leaving the cinema was recovering from the 3D glasses.

The movie was clearer in 2D.

Counterpoint, I feel like Man of Steel might have been improved by not being able to see it.

(I joke, I joke. I don't remember watching that movie at all. All memories of Man of Steel have been replaced by my annoyance at watching Batman vs Superman and having to watch Batman's origin story yet another time.)

Indeed. And also to avoid hearing it. I watched BvS on a plane on a little screen and that didn't help either.

Even on the big screen, I got bored during the fight scenes.

I don't have binocular vision, so the whole 3D effect is lost on me.

I do, but I despise 3D. It gives me a headache and it always seems like a gimmick. I've never seen anything where it added to the movie.

Living the dream! Merry Chinese food and movies! And cats. Cats are the most important.

My cats were not best pleased that I dragged my sorry corpse home at like 11, but they'll forgive me, I think.

Given you've been to the cemetery (fantastic pictures by the way) they should be grateful for that!

I got a LOT of movie vouchers as gifts so I have no excuse not to see every action film that comes out in the next 12 months. First up, I want to see the animated Spiderverse movie.

I kind of want to see it because it sounds good but animation.

I'm not a huge fan of most animation, but the art style looks so good.

I got a few non-awful shots, which I just posted. I just thought it'd be bigger, and maybe in an actual underpass.

Previews for Green Book made me nervous that it's an embarrassing white savior narrative. We saw Vice which wasn't very good but was fun to watch.

It's a bit that, but they kind of make the white guy so unappealing that it ends up not being that. Though they did really downplay the extent to which Dr. Don Shirley was involved in the Civil Rights movement and wasn't just some naïve intellectual type.

Maybe I'll watch it on Netflix at some point. I was also nervous that it was another neutered portrayal of a gay person but wikipedia suggests Don Shirley's orientation isn't entirely clear anyway?

They portray him as bi, and definitely sexual, though it's only in one scene and it is kind of to show how Tony isn't really a bigot deep down. I have no idea how accurate this is; other sources I've seen say that he was queer.
