This is what I am thinking.

After requesting recs for some lighter viewing, I have settled on Anne with an E, and it just right for my current frame of mind. There are a lot of emotions, but they are 13yo girl with romantical ideas emotions, and that is perfectly fine.

(I had been watching Z Nation, which I like, but was not the right show for relaxing to once George got sick.)

Is Anne with an E good? For someone who liked the original but wasn’t obsessed like her friends and doesn’t remember it in detail?

Don't really remember seeing the original, I think I must have but maybe it didn't air until a couple of years later here when I had aged out of the target audience. I read all the books when I was about 12, and adored them. I plan to get them out of the library when I've finished watching.

It's really lovely, and it's definitely possibly to read Anne as non-neurotypical, and I've just had the episodes with Diana's aunt who was totally a lesbian. I'm not sure if this being noticeable is entirely due to choices the production has made, or because I was less sensitive to these subtexts as a kid.

The casting is A+++ - Marilla is played by Geraldine Jones who was Milner in Utopia.

I know someone involved in the production and it sounds like they've definitely made some choices WRT subtext. And the woman running the show apparently shows signs of being non-NT so there may be some projection there, conscious or otherwise.

There is one (1) awesome episode this season. There are others that have great parts, but also have shitty storylines in them. But it's "All That Hard, Glossy Armor", the 10th one, the musical, which is also a Margo-heavy episode and features a lot of Eliot (not the monster, but in a special way). It's great. If you have the time, maybe see that, but the whole rest of the season is meh to aggravation, altho there are two eps with some good Eliot and Penny bits.
