....I honestly dunno, man. At this point I'm really sick of feeling screwed over by open canon and I might wait until Season five is DONE to decide if I want to see it. -- and LOL, I will probably be pirating it right when it starts, like I have done all four seasons by now. Fucking fuck.

(It actually takes a long time for me to drop a canon once I get invested in it, which is why I don't actually read a lot of popular book suggestions -- I need to finish a book once I start it. Not exactly sunk cost fallacy, but if I fall in love with the characters it's like I NEED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS, even if it's bad. And I mean Infinity War got me to disengage, mostly, from the MCU, but I still felt hyped about the money shot final battle in Endgame. Attachment disorder? LOL)

I'll be honest that I clicked the No option without even reading the Yes one only to think on reading it on the results page 'well... if you *like* that... who am I to say No?'. ;)

(Personally, I just watched some of the earlier seasons based off of particularly positive reviews -- like Q&E grow old and die together -- and then just read the Wikipedia summaries at convenient times like this for each season and think 'Glad I didn't spend any more time on this than that, then!' And the only reason they get even that little sliver of time is mild curiosity about severity of book divergence).

See, they have enough moments like the one where Q&E get old and die together, or the musical episodes, that I kept watching. And then they do really irresponsible shit like the season finale.

Okay: here are some of my DNWs. Yes and No answers are preferred.

Does anyone in the main cast die?

Do they find a way to stop Eliot being possesed by annoying monster thing?

Does Margo get sufficient screen time?

Another thing is, a lot of people are saying this feels like a SERIES finale, and I agree with that. Kinda like season five Buffy, only we all knew Buffy the show and Buffy the person were coming back. The show does have a lot of other vibrant actors/characters, but I honestly didn't feel his story was "done." It feels more like they yanked out a supporting lag, and how bad the wobble is depends on how well they're going to integrate everyone and maybe generate new plots. If it's all "Julia and Eliot grieve for Quentin and try to get him back" more people are going to quit. I honestly think next season it's going to really backfire on them.

I might not have hated it as much as a series finale, structurally speaking. As the end of the penultimate season, it feels like a bad direction.

Oh wow, the Vulture story made me want to sic the Faerie Queen on McNamara

After his death, Quentin wrestles with the question of whether his decision was about saving his friends, or was really him figuring out a way to kill himself. The funeral scene feels like an answer to that question, but did you mean it to be? Or did you mean for there to still be ambiguity?

John McNamara: I think that exact question will hopefully fuel debate and discussion and possibly be the source of a few academic papers at institutions of higher learning. I think it is ambiguous. Emotionally, Penny provides him with an answer, which is that Quentin was too attached to these people, and they to him, for Quentin to have consciously given up his life. But there’s a saying that a psychiatrist once said to me, which is that the subconscious always gets what it wants, and the conscious mind often never knows.

Are you at all worried that someone might read this episode as suggesting that suicide is an act of bravery?

John McNamara: I definitely don’t want to write pro-suicide television. It’s irresponsible, and it’s too simplistic, frankly. Someone being incredibly heroic in the moment, and also having subconscious self-destructive tendencies, makes drama interesting and not cartoonish.

Incidentally, while the villains past the first season and a half (which was when they stopped having villains from the books) completely suck, I think you would really enjoy Margo/Janet (she's Janet in the books, but another major character is named Julia so they changed her name to avoid too many Js).
