I don't get the beer thing

Nearly everyone I know in this province, myself included, is terrified of losing their jobs and homes, with the exception of people on ODSP or OW, who are terrified of losing their benefits, and the Tories spent the weekend tweeting "Free the Beer." They're not just digging our graves; they're pissing and dancing on them.

Also, leftists arguing that the Beer Store monopoly was a bad thing in the first place and that the government is right to break it: You're all on notice too.

Here it's pot. (I don't object to it being legal; I object to it being a distraction from other political issues. Though, as with perfume and tobacco smoke, I would like to be able to walk or drive down the street, or use public spaces, without being forced to inhale it.)

I keep telling them on Twitter that I can't afford beer if I have no job but they don't seem to care.

So if I want alcohol, I can:

1) Go to any of the many, many bars near my house
2) Walk 20 minutes to one LCBO and Beer Store (though why I'd get beer at the Beer Store is beyond me; all the good beer is at the LCBO)
3) Walk 20 minutes to another LCBO
4) Walk 20 minutes in a third direction to go to one of several fucking amazing breweries

People in the suburbs basically have the same thing but with driving and minus the breweries. This is the biggest non-problem that I can think of. Getting alcohol is easy. I guess it could be cheaper but I don't actually think it should be cheaper, because brewers and workers the Beer Store and the LCBO deserve to earn a living and people don't need to actually drink more than they already do.

OMG don't even get me started on pot. Not only are POC still in jail or dealing with criminal records for pot offences, but the same government has bungled legalized weed so much it isn't even funny. People joke about how our government are the only people in history who have managed to lose money dealing weed. And the Premier is a former hash dealer!

I figure cons just like to drink a lot of piss beer and are pleased it's saving them money - really, have you ever known them to be motivated by anything but cruelty and self-interest? Are beer store workers unionized? If they sell cheap beer at corner stores, maybe they'll get a twofer.

Yeah, the Beer Store is UFCW, I think, which is I'm sure at the root of this. Doug Ford doesn't even drink. I know lots of people who don't drink but I don't trust people who hang out in bars or promote alcohol but don't drink it themselves (see also: Patrick Brown). It's shifty behaviour.

You can't drive 20 minutes if you're already drunk. At least you shouldn't. But you should still drink beer.

I find the Beer Store has a knack for hiring racist people so fuck these workers.

- The Beer Store deal is really bad;
- It should be overturned one day: Wynne has basically built a multi-year poison pill in its recent update, so grocery stores sell beer now.
- So we shouldn't touch it until then;
- Extend by fiat the existing LCBO collective agreement to all store workers selling beer, no matter the store

I don't see why we just don't have one LCBO, tbh. I've maybe gone to the Beer Store once in the 10+ years since I dated an alcoholic who lived right above a Beer Store.

Anyway, bottom line is alcohol is a luxury. It's one that I happen to enjoy quite a bit, but if it's going to put me not just out of a job but destroy my entire career in this province and change the law so that, say, First Nations folks won't be able to sue the government either, people can put up with a shitty 10-year contract.
