Two things I did today:
1) Made a donation to the Canadian Red Cross, although I'm still looking for something more hands-on I can do to help. Fellow Canadians: You can donate online and earmark the money for South Asia. (Or other trouble spots. But that's probably the most urgent right now.)
2) Learned how to use the sewing machine. (I haven't used once since seventh grade Home Ec. It's harder than I remembered.) But I managed to thread it and stitch with it; I don't have decent fabric-cutting scissors, though, or decent fabric for that matter. Hence, experimentation with scrap material.

Marinetti enjoying the fruits of my labour.
And no,
rohmie, I'm not pregnant. It's DIY, or something. That, and the desire to make clothes that are more bizarre than I could possibly afford unless I made them myself.

Date: 2004-12-29 04:08 pm (UTC)I don't have any projects in mind; right now I just want to know how to use the thing. I think I'm going to make kitty toys, then messed up stuffed animals, then clothes for Marinetti, then clothes for me.

Date: 2005-01-03 12:39 am (UTC)Actually, I recently realized that can't ethically tease you. I just remembered that I occasionally sew myself. Usually it's strictly repair work, but I once made a nylon webbing thingy so that I could wear my watch on my belt. I folded the strap in two and sewed them together in the center to form a belt loop with two flaps. I sewed my watch, upside-down, to the lower flap using the upper flap to protect the watch face. Recommended if you can't stand wearing things on your wrists or just like the idea behind pocket watches.
