So.

He's a bit of a nutter, isn't he?

Kinda, but it's too easy to pick on him. He's the kinda guy who the Left lines up to distance themselves from, sorta like Chomsky or Rall or even Michael Moore.

Actually, that's an interesting case. I don't agree with the Soviet occupation, but it bears more investigation than the official story we've all heard.

I have no idea what Galloway's said about it, though. But the Western cold war perspective on it glosses over a few things that happened right before the invasion.

I think the soviet-installed government (because it was soviet-installed) had a definite (OMFG) western slant - them commies in Afghanistan sure didn't pull their philosophy out of Islam.

I always thought it ironic how the US worked so hard to replace a government that really did have somewhat western values with a bunch of people whose stance was antithetical to western thought.

I think the soviet experiment in Afghanistan was probably doomed anyway, but the way the US conducted its business with the mujahideen showed them that the US was no better than the USSR. Not many things gets people quite as mad as when they get the feeling they have been used as a tool. I also wonder how much the US government's agents were involved in the opium trade. Hey, it was good enough in Laos...

"Hail Red Army in Afghanistan!"

Because imperialist oppression is so much better when it paints itself red. Ugh.

Bloody hell, I hadn't heard him say that. Sheesh.

Maybe I should reconsider my membership... still, Respect isn't George Galloway, he isn't even the leader. After all, there's also the SWP...

"but make apologies for the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan."

>>>>>>> Well that's totally understandable. You see, if anyone needs the benvolent but yet crushing blows of the red fist it's the Afgani people

I went to an improv show that included one of my Fellow Workers and Katrina (the Wobbly, not the hurricane) showed up. One of our crowd there wore a t-shirt which pictured various crude fighting implements and read:

DAZL

Democratic Anti- Zombie League

I said that one of my friends would want one and Katrina immediately guessed who.

Did we discuss zombies in Chicago?

Are you up yet?

Shall I break out the beacon?

We're up and rehydrating for an exciting day of succoring locked-out CBC workers.

We have cookies!

September 18, 2005. Right. Got it.

I shall even offer to come to the parties with you. I won't offer to drink your drinks for you, because that would be a terrible idea.

Aha. You can also glimpse my cat on that photo. He is the owner of the furry leg on my shoulder.

Hah!

There is almost nothing better than chaning the captions and editing Family Circus.

The only thing better is doing the same to "Cathy" (or is it Kathy? I'm not so much thinking good).

AND I need a Boondocks icon.
